The Experience

A late 17th-century farmhouse and its outbuildings have been transformed into two warm and relaxed gîtes by the talented Sue and Steve. They’re set in a small hamlet in flat farming country and although it feels remote you’re only 15 minutes from Saint-Malo.

If it’s raining, stoke the wood-burner and find comfy sofas, books, films and board games as well as a big screen TV; when the sun shines you have your own corner in the leafy garden for a barbecue and two bicycles to explore the surrounding countryside.

Find a welcome basket with sparkling wine, eggs, local cheese and bread; there’s also bakery a two-minute walk away. The nearest towns, Châteauneuf and Miniac Morvan, are less than ten minutes by car and have shops, restaurants and markets; cycle the back roads to the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel in an hour.

Reviews

I love the Garden gite and can imagine a cosy romantic break for two here at any time of the year. Sue's considerate attention to detail will make you feel so at home and relaxed.

Michael, Jersey, Channel Islands

Spacious and well equipped. The best gîte we have stayed in, friendly owners and nothing too much trouble.

Carole, Sissinghurst, Kent

This gite has absolutely everything anyone would need for a relaxing holiday. The attention to detail is second to none. The garden is an added bonus for both sun lovers and those who seek the shade. Really peaceful and ideally situated for exploring the area. Hosts are most welcoming.

Maurice, Leeds

What a gem of a place to stay. This is a beautifully restored cottage with a lovely garden. Our hosts had thought of everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible including a well filled welcome basket. The gite was ideally situated with so many sites to visit in the locality that we were spoilt for choice.

Mieke and Bert, Obbicht, the Netherlands

Another lovely week at La Binellerie (Gite de Jardin). This place has everything you could wish for: a comfortable and tastefully decorated gite, great hosts and amazing places to visit within a short driving distance. It doesn’t get any better in France!

Location

The neighbourhood

Saint-Malo has all you need for water fun: surf, sail, sand kart or hire a sea canoe, and from here you can take numerous boat trips – a regular ferry service to the seaside town of Dinard takes ten minutes. There are numerous châteaux and gardens to visit within a half-hour drive, along with the medieval town of Dinan, which has half-timbered houses lining narrow cobbled streets, and the fishing village of Cancale, a must for seafood lovers.

Local points of interest from Sue & Steve Davison

  • La Binellerie, a renovated 17th century Gentilhommière and barns is situated in a peaceful, rural setting, in 1.6h of gardens and woodland. A perfect location for a relaxing holiday with family or friends.
  • Our nearest boulangerie is actually just around the corner! A small bakery which makes artisanal bread twice a week. The boulangerie in Chateauneuf is a 15 min walk, but we do have a couple of bikes for the uses of guests.
  • The nearest supermarket is at Miniac Morvan (10 min drive), which also has an excellent fishmongers, a delicatessen selling local products, and the usual bank, and Post Office. There is a market here every Friday morning.
  • We are just a few kms from the river Rance where there are numerous restaurants & bars at St Suliac, Pleudihen, Lyvet, Mordreuc, St Jouan. From the lock at Lyvet you can take a pleasant walk along the river to the medieval town of Dinan.
  • If you enjoy seafood then Cancale is the place to go, famous for its’ oyster beds. Here you can sit on the sea wall in the sun and eat a plate of freshly opened oysters with a glass of cold Muscadet! There is also a huge choice of restaurants.
  • La Binellerie is close to all of the main attractions in this beautiful area of Brittany, including Le Mont St Michel (the most visited place in France, after Paris), St Malo, Dinard, Dol de Bretagney, and Rennes, the capital.

Introducing

Sue & Steve Davison

Sue and Steve live in a little cottage next to their gites. They’ve lived here since 1996 and have spent much time renovating the properties – it’s a definite labour of love. Sue is originally from Leeds and studied music at the Northern College of Music, later becoming a private piano teacher. Steve works as a cabinetmaker – the cabinets, stairs, doors and windows in the gites are all his work – and has specialised in bespoke kitchens in the UK. In their spare time they have a boat and enjoy taking it out on the Rance river.
