Staying on Catherine and Coen’s estate may induce feelings of dissatisfaction when you return home: you have been warned! Welcome then to a gorgeous 18th-century chateau in one of the most beautiful areas of France surrounded by lake, gardens, breathtaking views and flourishing wildlife. Fortunately this charming couple are happy to share their good fortune and excellent taste; their farmhouse cottages, the largest overlooking the lake, could grace the pages of an interiors’ magazine. Imagine muted colours, natural materials and stylish furniture crafted from Coen’s own trees. Gardens too, and shared use of the château’s super pool. While the nearest restaurant (12km) is a bit of a schlep, cooking in these well-equipped, open-plan kitchens is certainly no hardship; ask too about twice-weekly table d’hôtes at the château – Catherine is a superb cook. Close by are all the usual essentials for a great French holiday – bounteous food markets, wine tastings, brocantes, cycle tracks… and, if hunting is your thing, Catherine and Coen can organise shoots on the estate. Magnifique.
