The Experience
The terraced garden is brimful of stepping stones and flowers, ginger tabbies wend through the irises, bucolic views stretch across undulating pastures: this is a deeply rural ensemble. June, widely travelled, kind, attentive, a great reader and lover of art in all its forms, lives in a long stone farmhouse in a cluster of outbuildings that go back to 1740. The airy two-bedroom suite in its own wing has a fine stone fireplace on its ground floor; floorboards are honey-coloured, the bathroom is a treat, and scrumptious breakfasts are served on charming country china. Lovely.

Brilliant! An oasis of calm after long drive. Very peaceful. A delicious and convivial meal with June and her friend. Nothing hurried ... An overnight stop but Can't wait to go back again. With the little kitchen/living area if also offers flexibility for longer stays....

June hosted us so generously - despite battling with a heavy cold at the time. Our first evening was marked by the tastiest boeuf bourguignon I've ever enjoyed. The ginger tabbies were a source of interest and delight. Everything in the guest apartment is beautifully appointed and well looked after. This is a delightful and restful haven.

Never was there a more peaceful old remote place, nor more sensitively, tastefully renovated, with little old farm buildings crammed in a lovingly designed rambling garden of flowers. Very comfortable accommodation with secret terrace high above the rest. Great conversation with welcoming Quebecoise hostess June on politics and much else. As experienced Sawday travellers, this was really one of the best.

June was the most wonderful host. She cooked a fabulous, filling meal for us which was brilliant as we were so weary from driving. She was a funny and interesting host. The little house we stayed in was adorable and comfortable. Great bath too! Loved the addition of the cats to entertain. Views were great too. All round thumbs up!

If your hire car is going to get a flat tyre, make sure you are lucky enough to have it happen just before you get to June's place. After a great meal, good wine, conversation and a comfortable night in generous accomodation, June and her mechanic helped sort our our wheels, while June showed us around her lovely town of Charolles. Real hospitality in a beautiful and real part of France. Oh, and there is also a terrific one Michellin star and bistrot. Definitely "worth a detour".
