The Experience
Welcome drinks and treats on arrival at this country house in a pretty village brimming with new chintz and old beams. Bedrooms dressed in ivory and white have quilted bedcovers and scatter cushions; sprays of artificial flowers brighten nooks and crannies; and there’s a bathroom behind a curtain.
Little English is spoken but the welcome is so endearing, the generosity so genuine, the food so delicious, that communication is easy. You’ll breakfast in the salon around one big table – dig into homemade jams and raspberry compote, smoked ham, cheese, local honey, breads and pastries. You’re welcome to cook for yourselves too; picnic in the garden when it’s sunny. Find air hockey and a children’s safari game, or play boules in the village.
Just a few cows on the farm, and the odd tractor passing, but the vegetable garden is handsome and much of the produce ends up on your (delightfully antique) plate. Take slow living seriously and reconnect with nature – go for hikes from the doorsteps, bike to nearby villages and discover off-the-beaten-track France.

We stayed here in August 2024 on our way to southern France. We loved our stay. A beautiful and peaceful location, with a really friendly atmosphere and delicious home cooked supper. Thank you so much.

A very relaxing stay at Muguette and Jean Pierre’s home in the bucolic hamlet of Bannay. Our hosts and their daughter Frederique were very helpful and informative about the local area, including local champagne producers. Supper on the evening of our arrival was excellent. Way off the beaten track but very memorable.

We stayed at Ferme de Bannay for one night on our way home from the south. Muguette and her family made us so welcome - with a homemade drink and cake on arrival, a few toys out for our baby and the best breakfast of our whole holiday (including a mini serving for our little one!). The room was beautifully decorated in a traditional style and was comfy and cosy. The whole setting was idyllic and we’d definitely stay again. Thank you!

Shops and a bakery are in Baye (3km) and Sézanne (18km) is worth a visit for its beautiful church of St Denis, gardens and several good restaurants. Château d’Etoges has a lovely restaurant too, which is a ten-minute drive.

Introducing
Muguette & Jean-Pierre Curfs
Smiley and attentive Muguette and Jean-Pierre have been welcoming and cooking for guests for nearly 40 years so you’re in very capable hands. They used to work on the farm, and Jean-Pierre especially is passionate about food, animal rearing and Charolais herds – about which he loves to share stories with guests.
We stayed overnight on the way home after time in Provence and it was such a fitting end to a French holiday. This is France Profonde – rural, local, with people rooted in the place. Muguette and her husband were so kind and interesting, the welcome was so warm and caring, the food so delicious and generous. Rooms were large, somewhat quirky and just what you’d expect in an old French farmhouse! Beds were comfortable, bathwater was hot and just what we wanted! Breakfast as ample and yummy as the dinner – we left feeling we had certainly tasted France…Highly recommended.
