The Experience
You’ll love it here: every morning brings a delicious breakfast of fresh bread, pastries, jams, honey and fruit, while daily cleaning is included. There’s also a glittering pool, acres of land, and beautiful interiors blending sun-warmed stone and terracotta tiles with contemporary colour and comfort.
The open-plan ground floor drinks in the view through double-height windows, while the mezzanine salon, with sofas, TV, games and books, opens to a wow-factor terrace made for sundowners. Large airy bedrooms mix antiques, tiled or wooden floors and thick stone walls. Eight opulent bathrooms complete the picture. The whole property sleeps 22, including a separate apartment and dorm-style loft.
A family kitchen, chef’s kitchen and outdoor kitchen with plancha make dining easy (a chef can be arranged). Spill onto the leafy terrace. Castelnou is 10 minutes, the coast 30. Ask about transfers, massages or a tour of the owner’s olive farm.

Location
The neighbourhood
The medieval village of Castelnou is 3.5km away or a 10-minute drive down winding roads. It's tiny but has a great restaurant serving Catalan food – open seasonally. The market town of Thuir (15-minute drive) is larger and has a Saturday morning market and supermarkets. Vibrant Perpignan, the Pyrénées-Orientales capital, is a 30 minute drive. Walking, cycling and beaches abound.
Local points of interest from Holly Hinchliffe Cooper
- Collioure, the picturesque harbour town of pastel-hued houses and medieval streets, that once drew in the likes of artists like Matisse, Picasso and Chagall. The town's famed anchovies are still prepared by hand using centuries-old methods.
- Astelnou is just 2km away and is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France. You can walk through its narrow streets, visit the castle with its magnificent view of the valley, stroll to the tower, explore the local craft shops.
- The vast landscape around Domaine Madrona opens onto walks for every pace - from gentle strolls to multi-day treks on the famed GR 10. We share advice, suggest routes, provide equipment, and our qualified local guides are on hand to lead.
- Thuir's market is our favourite Saturday ritual. Farmers from across the Aspres bring fruit, cheese, charcuterie and flowers to the shaded plane-tree square. Pair it with a visit to the Byrrh cellars - the world's largest oak vat lives here.
- Perpignan, 24km (15 miles) from Castelnou, is the capital of French Catalonia - affectionately named the "Centre of the Universe" by Salvador Dalí. A southern city of narrow streets, red brick houses and shaded squares made for slow wandering.
- Beach Clubs Beach clubs define Mediterranean summers on the Roussillon coast. Each season, straw huts, wooden terraces and sun loungers come to life - with chilled drinks, music and grilled specialities setting the scene for a perfect day by the sea.
