The Experience

Set up the barbecue, take dinner under the pergola and absorb the panorama; it swoops south to the Massif des Maures and ends in the Mediterranean. This spacious, secluded, 18th-century house, its thick walls oblivious to summer’s heat, stands in eight acres at the top of a long track.

There’s masses of space to spread out in two sitting rooms, two terraces, and a summer kitchen so it couldn’t be better for families and those wishing to escape the hubbub. You’ll find peaceful walks among the terraced olives and pines.

Enjoy the hinterland of the Var: the market comes on Tuesdays to medieval Lorgues (5km). Take a coffee in the town’s dappled shade; stop off for wines at Château Les Crostes. And if you fancy a day on the beaches, head off for the Riviera; lovely St Maxime and Fréjus are less than an hour away.

Reviews

Lizzie, Huddersfield

Bastide Oléander is perfection. The setting is stunning. The house is wonderful, equipped with everything one needs for relaxation and family enjoyment.

Sophie, Leeds

Our family had a wonderful week at Bastide Oleander in June. Excellent accommodation, beautiful setting and great service from Trikia and Crispin. The house was spacious, well equipped and beautifully furnished throughout. It was the perfect setting for our family holiday and we will be sure to return!

PETER, BASINGSTOKE

We have recently stayed at Bastide Oleander as a family group of ten. The whole holiday was superb and the house is beautifully furnished and every detail has been thought of. The bedrooms are comfortable, the linen is excellent and the house is immaculately clean and well maintained. The pool is perfect and was checked and cleaned during our stay too. The setting is dramatic and the nearby town of Lorgues is fascinating and the Tuesday market is a must. It is like staying in the home of a friend who has provided everything one could possibly wish for.

Sandra, Banbury

We have just enjoyed a wonderful two-week stay at Bastide Oleander. The house is beautifully appointed, well maintained and afforded excellent space for two couples. Five bedrooms, four bathrooms together with solid floors and walls meant we all enjoyed comfort, privacy and sleep. We spent most of our time enjoying the gorgeous pool and eating outside. The hilltop position afforded wonderful views, 180 degree skies and a lovely breeze that was welcome in the heat of July. We enjoyed the Lorgue market, excellent local restaurants and trips to pretty villages. Trikia and Crispin are lovely too.

Judith, Wymondham, Norfolk

Bastide Oleander lives up to expectations. It is well appointed and has gorgeous white cotton bedlinen in every room. We joked frequently about the well kitted kitchen. We thought we had found them out on a couple of occasions, "what, no ice cream scoop, what, no rolling pin?!" but everything we needed was there if we just looked. The view from the house and garden is just breathtaking and we and our guests rarely wanted to do anything other than relax, eat, drink, dip in the pool and soak up the view. Be prepared for the long rubbly drive to the house: but worth it for the view and seclusion.

Equally close is Thoronet Abbey, one of the three Cistercian marvels of Provence. Sporty types can ride, hire bikes or kayak down the river Argens, just ten minutes away.
