The Experience

Grapes droop lazily over the terrace, peach and plum trees melt into Apulian countryside, the pool invites a cool dip – this is a glorious Italian getaway. Michele and Mimma will greet you with an aperitif from the beautiful wine cellar or a delicious local cheese to nibble on.

Days are for wandering the streets filled with white houses, cycling the beautiful nature of Murge and visiting Cisternino – voted the most striking historic town in Italy. Wander the wonderful oak forests and fascinating terraces where the horizon meets the Adriatic Sea.

A lazy barbecue on the terrace, a snooze by the shady cedar, a splash in the shallow pool. You can request breakfast or dinner from Michele and Mimma or fire up the pizza oven. They know the best local markets, the must-try eateries in Cisternino town, and the beautiful spots on the Adriatic coast – a short drive.

Reviews

The hospitality, despite being self catering, here is wonderful, it's like being surrounded by a long lost Italian family if you want it to be, the hosts are friendly and relaxed, the trullo is comfortable and has everything you need plus the outside space; the pool, the paved and play area means you can make the most of the good weather months either side of the sizzling July and August.

I last wrote a review after our visit in September 2016. Don't know why I didn't add one for our visit in September 2017 ... it was just as good. Maybe even better because our stays here get better every year. This year was the tenth year in a row! We were here 08-22 September. This time with our daughter, her husband and our little grand-daughter (2 1/2 y/o). Naturally this was special. Little Gracie really enjoyed the pool with the surrounding flowers. She was entranced with the Trulli Coni - when she saw the wonderful lights all around she said the whole house was a Fairy-House! Grazie M+M!

A jewel of a place; utterly peaceful lieu, charming and warm owners, inspiring gardens and great pool area in which to unwind (particularly good for young children). Indoors is a little cosy and a touch tight (but then I'm 198cm and anyhow, one lives in the outdoor area). Well-kept, very clean and super well located at only a few minutes drive from lovely little towns, restaurants, supermarkets... The owners are exceptional and ready to help with their excellent recommendations. They even provided us with fruit from their garden and cooked us a memorable meal. Grazie Michele, Mimma

We had a fantastic stay. Mimma and Michele are fantastic hosts, wonderful friendly people. The trullo is such an interesting building and a really unique space to stay. The outside space and pool is the best we have experienced in any holiday accommodation. The cherries from the garden were delicious. Lovely peaceful place with lots of interesting towns close by. Excellent restaurants very close by. Would love to return.

Anna, Hertford

We adored our trullo- like staying with exceptionally kind and hospitable relatives! It is quite isolated but a quick drive to a beautiful town. The pool and garden area are stunning and the house exceptionally cute. Very reasonable kitchen given the small space which was handy as we cooked every night for our small boys. They loved the trullo, the pool, the birds and the lizards in the garden. Have already recommended to friends!

Location

The neighbourhood

Park under vines hanging heavy with grapes, follow the path up the steps to the courtyard; you’re home. Hanging poolside will take up a lot of your time - when you’re ready for human interaction Cisternino is a five-minute drive. Wander white alleyways, hidden courtyards and labyrinthine streets. Browse shops and stock up on supplies before pausing for a coffee al fresco in one of the many cafes

Local points of interest from Cosima Vita Semeraro

  • Cisternino is numbered among the most striking historic towns in Italy, and it has been also mentioned in the Slow Food guide.
  • The landscape is very particular: come and discover the beautiful nature of Murge by bike or by walk.
  • You will go through wonderful oak forests and fascinating terraces where the horizon meets the Adriatic Sea: this is our rich and ancient land.
  • The architecture of the old city centre shows perfectly the power and surviving of traditions, winking at Oriental arts
  • Every house is painted white, the predominant color of the town.

Introducing

Cosima Vita Semeraro

Mimma and Michele dedicate their love and time to this property and the attention to detail is second to none. They’re the kind of people that feel like lifelong friends after a natter over a brew. Real Sawday’s folk. Ask them for day trips and eatery recommendations - this is self-catering but they’re happy to help with everything.
