The Experience

You’re in one of the most picturesque parts of Umbria, and this ancient building, once a monastery, has a calm, history-filled atmosphere. Relax with a book in the communal sitting room, where you’ll immediately feel at home among the carefully created objects and handcrafted details, or spend time outdoors lazing by the pool and marvelling at the views.

Breakfast is taken in the dining room, or outside on the patio to the gentle sound of the stream trickling by: homemade cakes, tarts and bread, fresh fruit juices, herbal infusions, eggs on request. Light lunches are available and dinner is a fixed menu, decided ahead with guests and which can be with meat, vegetarian or vegan. Five spacious, view-filled bedrooms (three doubles and two family rooms) are minimally furnished, yet warm and welcoming.

Set off from the door by foot or with pedal power – there are many footpaths to follow and you can spot much wildlife. It’s peaceful here.

The neighbourhood

The nearest town is Valtopina, a three-minute drive, for cafés, a supermarket, the medieval church of Santa Cristina with frescoes and a fascinating Embroidery and Textile Museum at the town hall. Eat out at Michelin-starred restaurant UNE, just a ten-minute drive, or a traditional trattoria in Collepino. There is evidence of Roman occupation everywhere, and many castles including Poggio.

Mariaanna (who worked in hospitality) and Cesare (an architect with a background in events production) have lived and worked away from their families for many years. Their dream was to return to their roots and build a more peaceful life, and with determination and passion they've turned this vision into reality. Now they throw open their doors to share their wonderful home and this peaceful lifestyle with guests.
