The Coal Shed

What a splendid stay I had in this refurbished Coalshed just outside the town walls of York. With my car safely parked in the courtyard, and I never needed it again throughout my stay, I set out on foot to discover the charms of this ancient, glorious city. With Mike and Charmian’s bespoke suggestions at the ready I ate in the best restaurants, frequented all the small independent shops and attended Choral Evensong at the Minster only five minutes away.... An idyllic city retreat and yet within sound of the Minster bells what more could you ask for?

My friend and I stayed for 2 nights . It was great to be able to park and not use the car again for 2 days. It s within easy walking distance of the city centre. A lovely comfortable stay in a beautifully converted old building with hosts next door who were very helpful with local advice and gave us a lovely breakfast. Very comfy beds. Great location for walking into the city centre. Lovely rooms and shared dining area for breakfast, within a beautifully converted and decorated space. Absolutely charming and very helpful hosts. Would highly recommend as a base for your stay in York.

We had a fabulous two night stay at the amazing coal shed. Mike and Charmian were lovely hosts. Just a hop, skip and jump from the centre of York makes it a perfect location and parking is a bonus. The room and facilities were very comfortable. We will definitely be back again.

We booked the entire bnb for a couples holiday and were absolutely blown away! The accommodation is stunning with 4 equal sized bedrooms each containing an en-suite and little treats in the fridge. The location was perfect for walking into York city centre, with the Minster bells audible in the morning. We couldn’t have asked for better hosts-Charmian & Michael was so helpful and we couldn’t say Thank you enough! They also put on a beautiful breakfast spread which was delicious and had variety so there was something for everyone. We will most definitely be staying here again!

Michael and Charmaine have turned coal dust to diamonds! Maybe because she's a jeweller? It's certainly a gem of a place, with light and colour sparkling throughout. Who would ever think sleeping in a coal shed could be so luxurious. I loved it!

Linda and I had a great stay there last year. It’s a fabulous place to stay and very relaxing. We highly recommend staying here.
