The Experience

The views stretch all the way to the Brecon Beacons on a clear day, but Bath is just five miles away and the park and ride a twenty-minute walk or five-minute car ride. You’ll feel happy when you walk in: all is light, bright and airy with rugs and a log burner to warm you on chilly evenings.

Cooks will be pleased with the niftily-equipped kitchen and a dresser filled with pretty china – step out for wonderful views from the balcony, eat out in the enclosed little courtyard. Sleep in a well-dressed bed unruffled by any noise; a warm bathroom has a big shower and thick towels. Friendly owner Jane, who lives down the road, is a keen and talented gardener – interested guests may arrange to visit her one and a half acres.

There are walks galore – 30 minutes to the pub, acres of woodland to explore and the Cotswold Way right on the doorstep but many guests just stay put.

Reviews

Meredith, Auckland, New Zealand

We have no hesitation in recommending The Workshop in Bath. Jane was so lovely to deal with right from our first enquiries. It is a cosy, comfortable and very tastefully decorated cabin with spectacular views. A real feeling of home after a busy day out. The birds are a delight and it is very quiet. The kitchen is well set up for home cooking - lovely china and sharp knives. And Bath an easy drive away. Loads of walks, super bed and great floorboards for yoga too! We had 12 blissful nights of heavenly sleeps and would love to return.

Alice, London

We had a lovely time - very relaxing. Kitchen was well-equipped, comfortable bed and pillows, flowers in our bedroom and very warm and cozy. We’d love to come back.

Lisa, London/Paris

We loved our week long stay at The Workshop. A cosy, tastefully decorated, comfortable property with an elegant view. It instantly felt like home and we will be back! Thank you Jane.

Zoe, Essex

We really enjoyed every minute of our 3 day stay at The Workshop. We got to properly relax and unwind. The Workshop has everything you need for a comfortable stay including a well equipped kitchen, heated towel rails and a cosy log burner - all the little touches that make a big difference. We would definitely recommend this lovely place to friends and family and look forward to staying again. Zoe and Elliot Pearson.

Claire, Halesworth, Suffolk

We knew we were going to relax and enjoy our stay at The Workshop as soon as we walked through the door. This charming and cosy cabin in the woods provided us with a comfortable base from which to visit our son in Bath as well as a quiet spot to recharge our batteries.. It is tastefully decorated throughout with thoughtful touches that made us feel very much at home.. A truly lovely place to stay. I'm sure we will return.

Location

The neighbourhood

The Workshop is set in peaceful countryside and is heavenly for walkers. The nearest village, Upton Cheyney, is two miles away or 30 minutes’ walk down the hill - Upton Inn is great for a pint and does a good Sunday lunch. Dryham Park (NT) is a short drive for a lovely house, garden and café.

Local points of interest from Jane Morgan

  • The Workshop lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and right on the Cotswold Way. Lovely walks from the door, with outstanding views, for a stroll or longer hike. There are pubs to stop at and Bath racecourse is 20 minutes if you like the horses
  • The Georgian city of Bath is 10 minutes by car but better is the park and ride a mile away - a half hour stroll or a few minutes drive. Visit the Roman Baths, relax at the hot water Spa or wander round the World Heritage City itself.
  • In less than an hour by car you are deep within the Cotswolds . Visit bustlingTetbury for antiques and Cirencester a pretty Cotswold town. Bristol is 12 miles. Take a Banksy tour or stroll along the river via the Arnolfini to the SS Great Britain.
  • Walk in the National Arboretum at Westonbirt and visit any number of National Trust properties and gardens. Laycock with its abbey and gardens is delightful and nearby Dyrham Park is a must. It has gorgeous gardens, beautiful parkland and a good cafe !
  • You're a pretty 40 min walk from the local village of Upton Cheyney for lunch and a pint. Or to the Charlcombe Inn. 25 mins walk. There are two local pubs to drive to with good food. The Hare and Hounds and The Cross House. All welcome dogs
  • Or why not simply stay at home among the trees and the birdsong. We have a lovely garden and you're welcome to look round so do ask. And there is the Oak House, a romantic cabin for two in the woods-see Sawday's Canopy and Stars website for details.

Introducing

Jane Morgan

Jane and her husband live down the road in the main house; they moved here over 30 years ago, attracted by the space and astonishing views to the Welsh hills. The cabin was a workshop for making horse rugs for many years until they converted it into a holiday home. Jane’s abiding passion is her garden (she’s RHS trained), which she has created over the past three decades - it’s an informal riot of colour and scent on lots of different levels and blends seamlessly into mature trees and surrounding countryside.
