The Experience
Off the main road, past the redbrick houses (one of which is the delightful owners’) and there it is: a pretty little former cattle shed, all on one level, with a pitched roof and a private drive. A couple will feel romantic here, but there’s room for a baby too – and the family dog. The space was once used as stables before Chris and Graham converted it themselves.
A wood-burner keeps things cosy and you’ll find plenty of logs. There is a leafy, private garden with barbecue and an oak garden building with stunning views. After a long, lovely walk you can have a soak in the claw-footed tub with a glass of something local.
There’s an excellent gastropub a three-minute walk away and a golf course over the road with a fabulous spa if you need any pampering. The farm shop in nearby Holt has local produce and you can pick your own fruit in summer. Pack up a picnic for walking the Sandstone Trail.

27 steps to an idyllic hideaway for two! Snug but oh so perfectly formed with everything you could ever need for a romantic getaway for two. Tranquil, cozy, and welcoming, we felt ‘at home’ almost from the minute we arrived. We received a warm friendly welcome from the owner but this was never intrusive and he was extremely helpful in ‘local knowledge’. The ‘breakfast pack’ was superb! Generous, and catered for all tastes. I cannot wait to return in the near future and wouldnt hesitate to recommend Barton Bank Cottage to everyone I know!

Location
The neighbourhood
Turn off the main road that connects Wrexham with Nantwich and find yourself in charming Barton which has a great pub (The Cock O’Barton) and nearby Holt (five minutes) has a village store and farm shop. The cottage is tucked behind the owner’s house, facing paddocks and enclosed by trees and hedges; it feels private. Beeston Castle is six miles, Bolesworth is four. Stretton Mill is a short stroll away across fields and there are off road walks from the front gate.
Local points of interest from Graham Garrod
- Great Bar/restaurant 3 minutes walk. Plenty of great dining pube within 10 minutes drive
- Off road walking from front gate across fields to local lakeside café or across the golf course to ancient Stretton Water Mill, which does guided tours.
- A short drive to Cheshire's Sandstone trail for scenic walks to The pheasant inn at Burwardesley
- 10 miles to Historic Chester, for great shopping dining and Culture
- Easy reach of National Trust properties at Erddig Hall and Chirk Castle

Introducing
Graham Garrod
Chris and Graham – friendly, welcoming – hail from Cheshire and have lived in Barton for over 15 years. They’re big supporters of their community and can give advice on things to see and do - just pop across to the main house where they live with their friendly rescued pointer Lenny.
Wonderful in every way.
