The Experience

A super spot for a car-free holiday, the London to Penzance line is fast and reliable and the cottage, snuggled in a terrace in the centre of town is a five-minute walk from the station. The Lilliputian entrance hides a spacious interior with plenty of room for four: the open-plan kitchen/diner makes cooking and chatting easy. Stock up at any of the excellent foodie places nearby or use your voucher at The Allotment Deli on Fore Street.

St Ives has plenty to do year round: the Tate, Barbara Hepworth’s studio, and countless smaller places to discover. There are no fewer than five sandy beaches within walking distance of the cottage: Porthmeor is wildly popular, try the quieter Bamaluz beach to escape the crowds.

Back at base, both light, bright bedrooms have huge beds; one can be split into a twin and has space for a third if you need it. There’s a sun trap courtyard garden for evening drinks and a cosy living room with TV, books and games for wet days.

Reviews

This grade-II listed fisherman's cottage in the heart of St Ives looks exactly as you would expect as you arrive from the outside, but inside the property opens into a really bright, spacious and modern feeling interior. Whilst maintaining period features and some cosy spaces, Gilly has managed to modernise them, and make them feel both airy and light.

I enjoyed a lovely September break at Little House, with my young adult sons and our dog. It's in a fabulous yet quiet location, just behind the harbour and minutes from Portminster Beach. The cottage is much bigger than it looks from the outside and has been very carefully planned, tastefully designed and furnished and supplied with everything we needed, including 2 cafetieres, a microplane and local pottery! Beds were very comfortable, and the shower very good. Dangerously close to the ice cream parlor, we also enjoyed taking an early morning coffee from Yallah on to harbour beach..

we had the most wonderful time at little house, st. ives! it is hard to list everything we liked ... the house was in a great location, beautifully adapted and decorated to make you feel at home during your vacation. the selection of furniture, fixtures, colours, fabrics, art work is unique - gilly truly has a great sense for interiors. finding elements of the interior decoration felt like a treasure hunt from one local artists or independent store to the next - we made sure we got souvenirs there to bring a tiny bit of little house home. T H A N K Y O U we are already dreaming of coming back!

Angelika, Stockholm/Sweden

'Little House' is a fantastic place to stay and exceeded our expectations. Location, the atmosphere in the cottage, the lovely outdoor space and the attention to detail made this a wonderful stay. Everything was so convenient and the house is cosy yet spacious and despite the fact that it's in the middle of St. Ives, it is tucked away so you can have your peace & quiet if desired. The hosts are super helpful (clear instructions and nice tips to get around in St. Ives) and very kind and easy to reach anytime. We absolutely loved our time at 'Little House' - we will return.

Sarah, London

We arrived at the house to find it perfectly placed for all the joys of StIves. Just off the main streets and one back from the beach was wonderful. The house was very clean, well equipped, a little surprise on arrival for that added shopping experience was very thoughtful... and the garden an added bonus. We had a lovely time, and we would be very happy to reccommed it.

Location

The neighbourhood

St Ives thrums in the summer but is less frenetic at other times, so if you want to avoid the crowds try spring or autumn for a visit. As well as the obligatory beaches, Tate St Ives and Barbara Hepworth gallery and sculpture garden, the town has always been a haven for artists and creatives and you'll find a myriad of small galleries and interesting shops. The foodie scene is good here too.

Local points of interest from Gilly Porter

  • With the beautiful town of St Ives on the doorstep you will never be short of something to do whatever time of year you choose to stay at Little House.
  • The cottage is situated a few yards from the South West Coast Path with stunning walks in either direction.
  • There is a wide choice of restaurants within walking distance but if you want to escape the crowds why not try going slightly further afield to Hayle or Penzance using local taxi’s or the excellent public transport links.
  • If you’d rather cook at home we offer a well appointed open plan kitchen/dining room which is a pleasure to cook and eat in - or a south-facing courtyard garden for al fresco eating. Both the indoor and outdoor tables comfortably seat 6.
  • In colder months the cosy lounge at the front of the cottage is the perfect place to snuggle down in front of the woodburner with comfortable seating and smart TV.
  • If it’s water sports you’re looking for you can surf from Porthmeor beach or go kayaking or stand up paddleboarding from Porthminster beach. Lessons are available in all sports but you need to book early in high season.

Introducing

Gilly Porter

Gilly fell in love with St Ives when she first visited over 10 years ago. When the opportunity came up to buy Little House, she jumped at the chance, and then spent a couple of years renovating it with care and attention. She still loves St Ives and visits whenever she can. A local company cleans and manages the cottage so if you have a problem or need a hand you'll contact them.
