The Experience

This is a romantic bolt-hole in a lovely rural spot. It’s the small things that make all the difference at David and Elizabeth’s charming cottage: a breadmaker and fresh coffee for the kitchen, handmade soaps for the bath, cream tea on arrival, coal and wood for the multi burner stove and wellies for walks in the countryside. The house is a showcase for the soft furnishings business Elizabeth runs from a workroom on the farm so there’s plenty of her handiwork on display. She and David live next door but leave you to roam the grounds; there are horses to meet, vegetables to pick, a wildlife pond to peer into and a Victorian summerhouse for afternoon tea or a glass of wine. From every window you’ll see the garden – 25 acres of secluded land, including an orchard, just for you to explore. For a bit of hubbub, walk to Penzance in just ten minutes or stroll a couple of minutes to the village pub.

Reviews

This was our third annual visit to Boscrowan. The venue is quiet, the cottage is so well appointed and comfortable, Elizabeth fills it with flowers from her glorious garden, the linen is perfection, your every need is looked after; in fact, nothing seems too much trouble for her and David. In fact, we feel so well-looked after it is difficult to leave! We are already booked again for next year.

We had a lovely week at Ring and Thimble. The hosts could not have been more welcoming. We felt that they genuinely wanted us to have a lovely holiday. This was such a contrast to the cottage (which was also 5*) where we spent our second week, which was most definitely run as a business . From the freshly home made scones and jam on arrival at Ring and Thimble, the garden produce left for our enjoyment to the lovely flowers around the cottage it was all a very personal welcome to us. David and Elizabeth have the gift of being friendly and welcoming without being intrusive. Highly recommended!

We've been visiting Boscrowan for more years than we can remember, staying at both Ring & Thimble and Peace & Plenty, simply because these are both really lovely 5 star cottages - clean, warm, comfortable, well equipped and altogether delightful - and we'd really rather not risk staying anywhere else when we visit Cornwall. David and Elizabeth are kind and thoughtful hosts, and staying at Boscrowan feels like having our own bolthole in the far West, a real home from home. Whatever the weather, there's lots to do in the area too - coastal walks, Newlyn cinema, galleries, folk clubs, PZ Lido...

Ring and Thimble at Boscrowan in Heamoor Penzance. Each of our stays have been so wonderful. The property is so homely and comfy ...and everything is of a high standard. There are some lovely touches...beautiful flower arrangements..not to mention the delicious cream tea on arrival. When you go through the gates you are given such a great We come.. ..we have always enjoyed our time there. Always want to return to this Sanctuary. Thanks to Elizabeth and David, the best holiday destination you could wish for.

Quite simply "Exquisite Bliss". For the past ten years we've enjoyed all our holidays at Ring and Thimble and wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. The cottage is so homely and divinely decorated with beautiful fabrics and fresh flowers from the garden. A cream tea awaits you on your arrival and there are Cornish pasties available to purchase which are divine; particularly if you heat them up and then drive out to watch the sunset over the sea and enjoy eating them. There are so many wonderful places to visit and this is truly a gem of a location and cottage to holiday.

I do love having an AGA when I'm on holiday. The AGA was the main reason I chose to stay at Ring & Thimble, but I was also enchanted by everything else. From the pretty patios front and rear, the flowers, plants and pots of herbs, to the enormous comfortable bedroom and bathroom, everything Ring & Thimble had to offer was delightful. When on holiday, we like to have long days out and cosy evenings in and Ring & Thimble provided luxurious, well-equipped comfort.

Location

The neighbourhood

The village of Heamoor is a two-minute walk down the valley and has a pub, a bakery and a fish and chip shop. It’s a ten-minute walk to the bustling streets and pretty promenade of Penzance where you’ll find a busy harbour for boat trips, independent book shops, good art galleries and some new age shops which give a bohemian edge.

Local points of interest from David & Elizabeth Harris

  • Set in peaceful countryside where the only noise to wake you will be birdsong, yet the village of Heamoor with a well stocked shop open 7 days a week, a pub, a chemist and a baker is just two minutes walk away.
  • Visit the historic town of Penzance just over a mile away, enjoy window shopping in historic Chapel St, take a plunge in the iconic art deco Jubilee Pool. Or maybe it's a walk along the harbour and the promenade to Newlyn and watch the fishing boats.
  • No stay is complete without crossing the causeway to St Michaels Mount and climbing the winding path up to the castle. Make sure you find the giants heart on the way. Views over the bay, maybe a dolphin or two , tropical plants and then a castle to explore
  • So many beaches close by, it's hard to choose. There's Sennen for surfing. Godrevy for the seals, Porthcurno where the sea's like champagne, Cape Cornwall down past the fishing boats, Mounts Bay overlooking the Mount or Mousehole, St Ives and more........
  • Wake up in the morning and wander our fields for a pre breakfast stroll, if you're very lucky you might even glimpse a kingfisher on the pond or a heron motionless planning its catch.
  • For garden lovers there's nearby NT Trengwainton, just a 15 minute stroll or Trewidden and Tremenheere gardens less than 3 miles. Or half an hour or so in the car and there is Trelissick, Trebah, Glendurgan and more - fabulous gardens, some tropical too.

Introducing

David & Elizabeth Harris

David and Elizabeth Harris have lived here for almost 20 years and have transformed it from a dilapidated smallholding into a charming home and two guest cottages. They’re very proud of their place and love sharing their passion for the area, local produce and country life with guests. Elizabeth offers textile courses alongside her onsite soft furnishings business and they are both very environmentally conscious.
