The Experience

Everything at Venton Vean is tip-top. Immensely helpful owners Philippa and David moved from London with their family and have transformed a dilapidated Victorian house into a supremely cool and elegant B&B. Moody colours, mid-century design classics and interesting reclamation finds make for a stunning and eclectic interior. Food is a passion – expect freshly ground coffee in your room and some of the most tantalising breakfasts around: Mexican, Spanish, even a good old full English will have you dashing down in the morning. Arty Penzance is a joy as is the craggy-coved beauty all around.

Reviews

Venton Vean is an exceptionally comfortable and stylish B&B. Much care and attention to detail has gone into the furnishings and decor. My room and bed were extremely comfortable and spacious with very high quality bedding. Philippa made me very welcome and the breakfasts are the best I've ever had. I can highly recommend the homemade bircher. The location is excellent; right opposite Penlee Park, close to the town and seafront.

Beautiful quite location with a beautiful park opposite that takes you on a ten minute walk to Penzance. It’s five minutes from the sea and a wonderful 15 minute walk on the front to Newlyn. A very warm welcome from Phillipa who also served us breakfast each morning with lots of choices from Mexican, Spanish and English breakfasts, yogurts and fruits. Our room was fresh, with wonderful bed linen and lovely plump pillows with protectors. En-suite quite small but came with towels and local toiletries. It was quite a drive from Yorkshire but we would must definitely stay again.

A wonderful residential and stylish location, just opposite the park that leads you through to regency mews and the eclectic boutique area of Chapel Street. Venton Vean exceeded our expectations; from the quality of the bedlinen to the tasteful delight of every aspect of the breakfast. Not just any breakfast, a Venton Vean breakfast, with the focus on the best tastes each food could offer; homemade jams and granola, perfectly sweet red tomatoes, quality ingredients whether it was the bacon, breads or ripe avocados or figs. No corners were cut to substitute for 2nd best. Perfect. Thank you.

We had the most amazing visit to Venton Vean, Philippa couldn’t have been more friendly and welcoming, the food was incredible such ingenious options for breakfast, the rooms so beautiful and homely that we just didn’t want to leave and are already looking for excuses to go back! Added to that the location is perfect, a lovely quiet residential spot a 5 minute walk into central Penzance through the park. Perfect

What a fabulous find! Venton Vean is quietly tucked away in a leafy, tropical suburb! The warm welcome and comfortable rooms were just what we needed after a long drive. The home cooked breakfast choice, from around the world, was cooked using finest of local ingredients and was followed by rounds of toast, just so we could try all the different home-made preserves. One night we stayed home and had a meal cooked by David and it surpassed any meal we had whilst we were touring round. Just incredible food ! Well done to you both and thanks- I can’t recommended it enough.

A fabulous 4 night stay at Venton Vean. We were warmly welcomed by Philippa with pot of tea to the stylish accommodation, our room was beautifully appointed {Room 3) with a lovely decadent bathroom. The property is ideally located in a quiet leafy area of Penzance just a pleasant stroll through Penlee Park to reach the seafront. We took the opportunity to have a 3 course evening meal at Venton, cooked by David and each course was amazing, cooked to perfection and elegantly presented (and breakfasts were a culinary treat). Nothing seemed to much trouble. We will definitely be back!

The very warm welcome from Phillippa was comforting in the age of Covid 19. We were offered tea immediately upon our arrival outside. The 2 bedrooms we had were cosy & very comfortable with a sparkling clean bathroom. The house & bedrooms are so attractive with lots of interesting paintings on all the walls. I honestly think you could have chosen anything for breakfast & it would have appeared on your plate-the tomatoes with a few cumin seeds scattered over top were such a great taste. Our whole stay was a delight & it was a shame we had to leave but we will be back.

Fantastic place - comfortable, stylish and fabulous breakfasts with a creatively impressive array of homemade jams. Great location and Philippa was on hand with helpful tips for the area. Brilliant base to explore this stunning part of Cornwall.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at Venton Vean. We were warmly greeted by Philippa upon our arrival. The room was spacious and most comfortable. Breakfast was truly amazing; all offerings are made by Philippa. Our stay at Venton Vean contributed in making our first visit to Cornwall a memorable one. We would love to return one day.

Very comfortable, delicious breakfasts and Philippa was wonderfully helpful and welcoming throughout our stay. A lovely, quiet location.

Wonderful boutique B&B...a real find! Always welcoming, stylishly and thoughtfully furnished, homely and a lovely breakfast with a scrummy granola. Also very peaceful part of Penzance. Have been back many times!

I love Venton Vean. I have stayed here twice now and I'm hoping to visit once a year for the rest of my life. Philippa and David are perfect hosts: they really enjoy looking after you. The breakfasts are so exciting. David is a brilliant and creative cook, and his homemade jam is a whole story in itself. Jam may be a small detail, but then Venton Vean is all about the details, from the halloumi and spinach for breakfast to the Pure Nuff Stuff in the bathrooms and the garden flowers in the bedrooms. These details all contribute to a uniquely fun, relaxing and memorable experience.

Another wonderful stay We had a second visit to Venton Vean and enjoyed our stay even more than the first time. Everything here is top notch. Philippa is the perfect host. She’s super friendly, goes out of her way to make you feel at home and her recommendations are spot on. And her husband David makes the most scrunmy breakfasts. Already planning a third visit.

Janice, Hitchin

We had a great stay here, from the moment arrived we were superbly looked after by the owners. Nothing was too much trouble, and their recommendations for dining out were spot on. The breakfasts were all excellent, including homemade jams and great coffee. The house has been stylishly renovated throughout. Our room (#1) was light and airy, and extremely comfortable. It is in a great location, in a quiet part of town. We easily parked directly outside. In the evenings we walked to the town and seafront where there were numerous restaurants and cafes. Highly recommended. We will be back

Great neighbourhood, beautiful house and garden; inside is where the action is! The tonal colour palettes of the walls, floor coverings, furniture, and accessories are spot on - interesting to view as the light moves during the day. Wonderful photographs and prints decorate the walls in the bedrooms and throughout. Then there's Philippa! Super helpful, knowledgeable, attentive and a gifted conversationalist. Not so visible is David, but he confirms the visit as a ten out of ten experience. Busy in the kitchen - home made granola, home made jams and marmalades and The Mexican Breakfast - wow!

Christopher / Sally, London

Perfect stay. A fabulous B&B but with the exceptional personal service and facilities of a hotel costing at least double the price. Stunning house, gorgeous bedroom and imaginative choice of yummy breakfasts – which are freshly cooked to order. You can really feel how passionate the owners, Philippa and David, are about what they do. From the warm friendly welcome and inspirational decor to the unexcepted treat of homemade biscuits. And nothing was too much trouble. We left (though it was hard to say goodbye) feeling so well taken care of and can't wait to go back.

A very warm greeting to a fresh, attractively modernised house in a lovely part of Penzance. We loved our glamorous room, which had everything we needed, and hugely enjoyed the excellent breakfasts. Buzzy, contemporary art around the house completed our enjoyment. We look forward to returning, as well as renewing our acquaintance with Phillipa, a humorous, jolly hostess who couldn't have done more to make us comfortable and welcome.

I love this place so much. In the last five years 2012-17 I must have stayed here dozens of times. I could rave about the rooms, the breakfasts, the owners and the ambience. But to keep it brief, I'll just say two things. Venton Vean is the best sleep you'll ever have and Venton Vean smells like your favourite person. Sounds crazy but it's true. All I can say is see for yourself.

Josh, South Brent

My stay at Venton Vean was lovely, and I highly recommend it for your West Cornwall holiday. The location is perfect for exploring Penzance, as the town centre and harbor are just a short walk away. All of West Cornwall is easily accessible as well. Venton Vean is a wonderfully restored Victorian on a lovely street, with high ceilings, lovely large rooms, and modern but elegant furnishings. The owner, Philppa, is very helpful with ideas and suggestions for activities and restaurants in the area. The breakfasts are delicious-ask for her homemade fig jam! And don't miss their beautiful gardens!

Elizabeth, Atlantic City

Loving attention to detail at each turn coupled with warm, creative, knowledgeable, & supremely helpful hosts. Beautiful signwriting on the gate & a charming garden set the discerning tone. Interesting, artistic decoration & furnishings in generously proportioned, uncluttered rooms created an air of fresh, welcoming calm & comfort. Breakfast was a delight of fine fruits, breads, smoked fish & outstanding homemade preserves. The hosts’ thoughtful, well-written local guide tempts me to return to up & coming Penzance & explore surrounding parishes. Thanks too for free Netflix!
