The Experience

In a quiet green valley between moor and coast, find this medieval barn conversion (mentioned in the Domesday book) in 13 acres of shared orchards, woodland and fields. A Devon cream tea hamper will be waiting for you with the full works (scones, cream, jam) plus wine and cider.

This is a place for active families. Tramp through the woods (wellies provided), dam the streams, make dens. You can sit on your own gazebo with a glass of wine and keep an eye on the dedicated play area. The highlight is the stunning indoor pool, looking out over a terrace to rolling countryside through plate glass.

Hike straight from the door, borrow a kayak or bodyboard and get to the beach in 15 minutes, explore this charmed corner of South Devon. Return with something local to sizzle on the barbecue as the stars come out.

A very beautiful and relaxing place. Our children were delighted with the accommodation and the pool, and the whole family had a great time. Lovely cider too!

Marina, Cambridge

Just back from our 2nd visit to the Cider Barn and it was even better than the first, a real home from home. We had our 2 daughters with us 11&17 and as soon as you arrive you feel relaxed and Lorraine & Kevin do an exceptional job and the attention to detail at the cottages really makes them stand out. We took our Dog and he was overwhelmed by the grounds and looked like he was sulking today back home this morning! We will be back again for sure. Thanks

Max, Richmond

A lovely place to stay. Tranquil yet within easy reach of lovely beaches and pretty seaside towns. The pool was perfect for our young children.

David, Bath

A perfectly peaceful & picturesque location, making for a very relaxing stay. Lots of lovely little special touches within Cider Barn and the pool is an added bonus. Loved this place & hope to return.

Jo, Bristol

Cider Barn is in a stunning location at the end of a narrow Devon lane. The accommodation is of a very high standard with extremely comfortable beds, a well appointed sitting room and excellent working kitchen. We loved the heated indoor swimming pool and garden gazebo. We were able to BBQ and still enjoy alfresco eating even though the evenings were cool. The owners Kevin and Lorraine couldn’t have been more helpful. We hope to return for a longer stay.

Kay, Nottingham

It is not difficult to understand why guests return time after time, ourselves included. Lower Grimstonleigh is a truly special place to stay, from the idyllic setting amongst rolling Devon hills, to the stunning indoor swimming pool. We spacious open plan living area as well as Top Barn with it's incredible vista. have now stayed in Apple Cottage, with its divine spiral staircase and cosy but Kevin and Lorraine are exceptional hosts, friendly, accommodating with fabulous attention to detail. I highly recommend you try it for yourself. You won't want to leave!

Nicky, Farnham

Immaculate accommodation and stunning location for a three-generation family holiday in two adjoining cottages (Top and Cider Barns). Our children - 6 and 4 yrs - loved the pool, the playground and the stream/gardens. The adults loved the peace and quiet, and nearby towns and countryside for wonderful meals, shops and scenic exploring. Cannot recommend this place highly enough!

Hannah, Bangkok

Outstanding accommodation, beautiful setting, warmest welcome. Cannot recommend highly enough. Took two children (5 and 7) and one dog. All the family settled in straight away and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Such a quiet and relaxing setting, a short drive from some fantastic, dog-friendly towns. Could happily return time and time again.

Gillian, Bristol

Accommodation excellent, high spec, comfortable and luxurious. Gorgeous setting, and the pool is excellent. We stayed with a small baby & a 3 yr old. Very relaxing.

Faye, Bristol

An idyllic relaxing retreat in the beautiful Devon countryside. All the little touches hamper, wellies and the addition of the lovely indoor pool make this a very special place to stay.

Carole, Exeter

We visited for a short break at the beginning of November (our third visit). Grimpstonleigh worked its magic yet again offering a restful and luxurious space to return to after walks along the coast and trips to Salcombe and Totnes. You are made to feel truly welcome from the start with a welcome pack of organic fruit and veg and bread delivered by the local baker, not to mention the apple juice made by Kevin with apples from the orchard. We could happily have spent the whole time at Cider Barn resting by the beautiful pool and delighting in the 33 degree temperature swims.

Una, Wiltshire

Fabulous accommodation in a wonderful setting/location. This was our second visit to Lower Grimpstonleigh and we have booked again for summer 2016. Cider Barn is wonderfully equipped and the welcome hamper/freshly baked bread on arrival is a lovely gesture (the shortbread is delicious). The icing on the cake is the FABULOUS heated indoor pool with views down the valley. The owners are so welcoming and have thought of everything. If you book a holiday at Lower Grimpstonleigh you will definitely want to return time and time again. We love it.

Had a fantastic stay, a real gem of a place with the feel of being "home". A very warm welcome too from hosts and resident piggies! We'll definitely be back.

We had a fabulous weekend: every detail had been thought of...with a delicious hamper on arrival, classical music playing, dvd's for the boys and their own swimming robes! The pool is equal to that of a smart boutique hotel and we seemingly had it to ourselves, perfect once we were tired from beach trips etc. beautiful walks from the door, a stream to wallow in and even a playground too. Top marks- we highly recommend!

Brilliant. We've stayed 4 times; Every one relaxing, pampered and special. On our last trip the new pool was ready - just perfect! Cider barn is great for families - with a bedroom at each end. Our daughters love having a room of their own that they share. The attention to detail, fittings and little touches are the best we have seen in many years of self catering with kiddies. Love it!

The neighbourhood

The peaceful hamlet of Grimpstonleigh lies half a mile down a lane off the Totnes to Kingsbridge Road. There’s a delectable range of beaches within 15 minutes’ drive, while Dartmoor can be reached in 30.

Kevin and Lorraine, who live on site, bend over backwards for their guests – they’ll even pick you up from the station if needed. Kevin is passionate about his orchards of traditional English apples, from which he makes his Pigs Snout Cider, and in the autumn you may well be invited to a harvest supper after a day of picking. Given your immaculate surroundings, it’s no surprise that Lorraine’s thing is interiors. Above all, the couple want your holiday to be special, and they’re proud to count several past guests as friends.
