The Experience

Concealed by a thick blanket of award-winning woodland is this textbook country bolthole, where the birds chirrup, the river flows and the stars shine brightly. The guardians of your charming miller’s cottage are Sonia and Simon, who live in the nearby Millhouse.

It’s a place to step back and take stock: relax by the creamy Rayburn or doze off by the wonderful old fireplace with limitless logs. A pretty window seat upstairs overlooks the cottage garden – secluded and south-facing, a lovely spot for a summer barbecue.

Explore the valley by foot – Simon and Sonia’s enthusiasm for the area is infectious and they carefully manage the surrounding area. Bees, birds and bluebells are encouraged, and a small herd of beef cattle, pigs, ducks and hens merrily thrive.

Reviews

Paul, Leiden, The Netherlands

Horry Mill Cottage is truly amazing. A large, full free standing cottage full of historical details and atmosphere with great gardens around it. It exceeded all expectations. The cottage is located in the midst of forestland and fields and many public footpaths. And let's not forget the fresh eggs from the henhouse and the well-stocked library, including detailed maps. Sonia and Simon made us feel totally welcome and at home. This is the 1st time I can confidently say that I am looking forward to coming back.

Hilary

Thank you as usual for your hospitality Sonia & Simon. We have had a lovely relaxing time not being tempted to do all the jobs at our house, garden and fields which like yours are never ending!

Rajiv, New Delhi

If heaven was a place on earth it would be much like Horry Mill farm! A magnificent idyllic setting, and a delightfully charming, spotlessly clean, and well-appointed cottage with an exquisite large garden. We would rate our stay as 10 out of 5 … However, given the limitations of the website, we will settle for 5 out of 5!

Martin and Lesley, Kent, England

We had an absolutely wonderful time at Horry Mill. Walks by the stream and into the woodlands. Watching the chickens and the cockerel strutting about just outside the kitchen window. We loved sitting in the the vinery with our breakfast, enjoying the warmth of the early morning sun whilst surrounded by greenery and birdsong. Thank you Simon and Sonia for being such welcoming and thoughtful hosts - plus of course the cream tea - a real taste of Devon!!

Carol, Marlborough

We have just returned from a week in Horry Mill Cottage with our very old labrador, Hamish. Due to his limitations we stayed close to 'home' and we couldn't have chosen a better place to do this. The cottage is very comfortable and there was nothing that we needed that we couldn't find. Sonia and Simon were excellent hosts. Sonia kept us supplied with fresh eggs and a welcome cream tea on arrival. My husband was able to take the dog for varied walks from the front door and we all enjoyed the delightful, natural garden. We have never felt so relaxed in a rental cottage and slept very well.
