The Experience
Concealed by a thick blanket of award-winning woodland is this textbook country bolthole, where the birds chirrup, the river flows and the stars shine brightly. The guardians of your charming miller’s cottage are Sonia and Simon, who live in the nearby Millhouse.
It’s a place to step back and take stock: relax by the creamy Rayburn or doze off by the wonderful old fireplace with limitless logs. A pretty window seat upstairs overlooks the cottage garden – secluded and south-facing, a lovely spot for a summer barbecue.
Explore the valley by foot – Simon and Sonia’s enthusiasm for the area is infectious and they carefully manage the surrounding area. Bees, birds and bluebells are encouraged, and a small herd of beef cattle, pigs, ducks and hens merrily thrive.

Our third visit to Horry Mill but the first in 3 years. When we arrived it felt like we had never left. Sonia and Simon are so welcoming and when the week was up we didn't want to leave. Thank you and see you again soon.

When we first stayed at Horry Mill about 15 years ago we found our perfect hideaway. The charming cottage is well equipped and comfortable with a beautiful garden and wonderful walks with our dogs straight from the door. Sonia and Simon could not be more welcoming and we have returned at least once a year, sometimes with children and grandchildren who have also fallen under its spell.

Sonia and Simon are the perfect hosts and as with a previous visit we enjoyed our stay enormously. We were greeted by them with scones and Devon cream for tea. Fresh eggs were provided during our stay. Horry Mill is set in a wonderful remote wooded valley in beautiful countryside. The cottage was perfect and provided all our needs but above all the peace and tranquillity of this special place remains engrained in our memory. Thank you.

We stayed there 3 months ago , but Horry Mill still shines brightly in my memory. This is an enchanted place. It felt like going on holiday to my childhood. If you love the deep peace of woods, steep valleys of flowers and birdsong, cattle grazing in small fields, ancient oak trees, then it's for you. You can walk everywhere: you won't need the car. The walk to Winkleigh (pubs, real post office, shop, butcher, cafes, church) is lovely and quiet, except for short stretch of busy road. Best of all is the cottage itself: beautiful, authentic, comfy, cosy, an open fire AND a Rayburn – just heaven.
