Plenty of wood, slate floors and fresh flowers from the garden give an elemental feel to the interiors of what was an ancient farm building. Owners Sarah and Craig, who live next door in the thatched cottage have done much of the renovation work themselves. It’s a generous space with an open plan living/dining and kitchen area, a wood-burner and books and games. You’ll find cooking essentials in the cupboards, plus bread or croissants and a few sweet treats for your arrival. The gallery bedroom upstairs has another sofa and a desk with a grand view.
A little seating area is reached through doors from the living room and opens out onto your own private space packed with trees, shrubs and flowers. You’re welcome to visit part of the main garden too – a beautifully-designed series of ‘rooms’ connected by paths and steps and filled with many birds.
Spend days on nearby beaches (borrow towels, a picnic bag and a thermos flask too), gentle walks start from the door, or hike on lovely Dartmoor. The peace is deep but you’re only five miles from Totnes.
