The Experience

There’s a special quality to the light here and soul-soothing views to the sea framed by Jacobean-style windows and from the south-facing garden below these smart apartments. All three together are for grand group gatherings and catering, music etc. can be arranged in the big ballroom, no problem.

Take a stroll in the grounds and smell the roses, snooze in the swinging seat; plan a barbecue or an evening by the fire pit – sunsets are brilliant here. Children can run free, craft driftwood, poke around in rockpools or make dens in the woodland.

A lovely cross-country walk brings you to golden Putsborough Sands – it’s fine to borrow a board or a wetsuit and you get a free pass so you can go as often as you like. Stride out on the SW Coast Path or pootle to one of the foodie village pubs. There’s good food too in Croyde, Braunton, Ilfracombe and Woolacombe. Each apartment has a QR code with the latest info.

Reviews

Such a great place for a celebration! You can party to your heart's desire in the main wing of the Manor House without disturbing anyone else. Located in a wonderful historic building, with the option of a very large hot tub in the orchard too.

Location

The neighbourhood

You’re surrounded by fields and narrow country lanes, and a stroll downhill reveals Putsborough Beach: two miles of golden sands with Woolacombe at the far end. Surfy Croyde is 2.5 miles away and Braunton, four miles away, is good for supplies, cafés and restaurants too. You can be in Ilfracombe in 20 minutes to catch the ferry to Lundy, but if you’d rather stay on terra firma, the wilds of Exmoor are a 15-mile drive inland.

Local points of interest from Pickwell Manor

  • We are within walking distance of beautiful Putsborough Beach for 2 miles of golden sand. We also provide a beach pass for parking there. It has a great cafe, surf school and sauna.
  • Croyde Beach is also only 2 miles away with surf schools, lovely restaurants and a National Trust walk around Baggy Point.
  • Historic Georgeham village with its 2 excellent village pubs, The Kings arms and The Rock is only 1 mile or a 20-minute walk away. Georgeham also has a lovely village store with lots of local produce and a farm shop.
  • National Trust amazing walks around Baggy Point, Morte Point or Arlington Court.
  • Further afield, visit the historic and interesting villages of Clovelly or Lynton and Lynmouth on Exmoor with gorgeous walks and lots to see.
  • Ilfracombe harbour is an interesting day out for fish and chips, boat trips, harbour walks and water sports. You'll see Verity, Damien Hirst's 60ft statue that looks out over the harbour.

Introducing

Pickwell Manor

Two families bought Pickwell Manor in 2007. They've made major changes, creating 10 apartments and four treehouses. It's a fine example of using renewable energy for all aspects of the business. The Pickwell Foundation was set up to channel profits into charitable causes.
