The Experience

On top of a hill, surrounded by a wooded valley, this large Victorian house has room for everyone. Spread out in large living rooms flooded with light, hunker down by the open fire after a day on the surf at sandy Woolacombe (just a 10-minute ride away) or just laze on the lawns with sunny views down to Lee.

There’s a long oak table in the kitchen for big brunches and group dinners. Outside there’s also a gas barbecue and another huge table to fit everybody, so warmer evenings are huge fun. An extra couple can have the private Bothy, with its own wood-burner, all to themselves.

With the rock pools of Lee Bay, the South West Coastal path and a great village pub all minutes away you won’t really need the car. Sunsets are glorious too, so let the children tear about while you open a bottle and find a seat in the garden.

Stunning house with plenty of room for our family gathering of 18 ranging from age 77 to 5 months. We could gather comfortably in the living room and kitchen or scatter into splinter groups as required! The children loved their own den lounge with full size table tennis and plenty of nooks for hide n seek! When we did manage to drag ourselves away from ambience of house, we loved the nearby all but deserted Lee Bay beach and a bracing coastal walk to Woolacombe! Oh and charming pub 2 mins from house which was another plus! We’d certainly return as was perfect break for all of us

The neighbourhood

The Old Vicarage is in the small village of Lee. The rock pools and coves of Lee Bay are a short walk away and a 14th century village pub The Grampus is a five-minute walk. The pub serves good organic ales and locally sourced food and doubles up as a shop for essentials. There are several trails nearby including stunning coastal walks and it’s just a ten-minute drive to arty Ilfracombe or the beautiful sandy beach at Woolacombe.

Local points of interest from Amanda Robertson

  • The house has always been popular with groups of all sizes whether its a family of 4 or a party of 15, a celebration, a holiday or just a weekend away! We have a range of rates starting at a small party of 10 guests for week or weekend breaks to suit all.
  • The area is famous for some beautiful beaches, great for surfing, boogie boarding, rock pooling and kayaking. Lee bay 10 minute walk and Woolacombe a 10 minute drive. All beaches dog friendly! A host of stunning coastal and wood walks from your door step.
  • All the comforts of a luxury home with crisp Egyptian cotton sheets, large comfy beds (4 x Super/king beds) and Branche d' Olive products. Open fire, an abundance of good reads , 300 DVD library, table tennis, badminton on the lawn and lots more to amuse!
  • Excellent food at a variety of near by pub/restaurants, The Grampus pub 2 mins walk. Local Chef's can cook a variety of culinary delights to order and deliver or cook in house of an evening.Supermarkets, butchers and green grocers all deliver.
  • The Bothy (cottage) is extra accommodation for the main house. A quaint Victorian out house converted to sleep an extra couple in a king suite with wet room. Oak floors, under floor heating and a wood burner to light on chilly nights. A romantic hideaway!
  • Lee bay Village itself is a little hidden gem, rarely discovered by many as there is minimal beach parking and it is off the beaten track. Therefore what ever time of year it is, it's never crowded. Most who visit return time and time again!!

Amanda Robertson

The Robertson family live and work in London, but found their dream escape in Lee after visiting friends and falling in love with the area. They saw The Old Vicarage for sale a couple of years later in the paper and one viewing was enough to make them determined to make it their coastal hideaway. The views, sunny aspect and pretty village of Lee draw them back regularly, but they love opening up their home for you.
