The Experience
You couldn’t fail to feel happy here – with so much space inside and out, it’s a peach of a place to stay in any weather. Larger groups can also take the cottage next door, a sweet hideaway for grandparents or those wishing to flee the general throng. The five bedrooms in the barn are downstairs, some can be twins and all are a good size with thick mattresses, lined curtains and good art; low-level lighting guides you at night.
Upstairs to an enormous, beamed living room, beautifully lit, with a long table for convivial jigsaws, chopping and eating. At one end a sleek kitchen with plenty of kit, sharp knives and a wine fridge, at the other – soft sofas, good books and a wood-burner. Another sitting room has a strapping TV and a corner sofa which teenagers will hog.
Indoor pool, firepit, hot tub, outdoor shower, two garden areas (one quite large), children’s playground and smooth lawn – all is surprising and delightful.

We think you'll love
- Going somewhere with your children which is cosy but also very beautiful - there's been no compromise
- Exploring food markets, taking wine tours, eating great local food or binging it back to cook
- Sitting round the fire pit at night watching the stars come out and bats flitting about happily
You should know
- For groups of 12, five bedrooms are in the barn and one is in the cottage next door. Sorry - no dogs.
- The walls are thick downstairs - you may have to move about a bit with your phone – but upstairs is fine
- The owners live in the farmhouse on site and occasionally use the pool a couple of times a week (no other facilities are shared)

Location
The neighbourhood
One or two footpaths from the door will take you on gentle circular walks. It's 20 minutes to the South West Coast Path for challenging ups and downs with wonderful views and 30 minutes to Dartmoor. Totnes is a ten-minute drive for castle, independent food shops, a market on Fridays and Saturdays and Ben's Farm Shop for local meat and veg. Bantham is a safe, sandy beach or head to Dittisham.
Local points of interest from Raymond & Emily
- Willows Rest is perfectly located for the best of the South Hams Beaches - Bantham, Bigbury, Thurleston, Slapton Sands, Blackpool Sands and more, all within 10 miles. Head north and you're in dreamy Dartmoor with great walks and bohemian villages
- Nearby, the market town of Totnes is just 10 minutes and has maintained its character and unique shops with a positive alternative edge - no chains allowed! Dartmouth and Kingsbridge are 15 minutes away with plenty of good eating, shops and entertainment
- There's plenty of good eating opportunities nearby from Michelin stars in Dartmouth to the great "gastrobus" on Bantham Beach with a plethora of good pubs in between, including the New Inn a 10 minute walk.
- For National Trust members, Greenway House is not far (Agatha Christie's country house), Overbecks in Salcombe and plenty of National Trust beaches offering great coastal walks and sand castle building. Sharpham Vineyard is also close by.
- For the active - sailing in Salcombe, surfing at Bantham or Bigbury, Kayaks and SUP at South Milton. For kids, Woodland Leisure Park and Totnes Rare Breeds 10 minutes away, Pennywell Farm and the River Dart Country Club a little further.
- If you dont want to go anywhere, Willows Rest has an indoor pool, hot tub, children's play area, animals to pet and local strolls to be had. Not to mention luxurious interiors just to lounge around in.

Introducing
Raymond & Emily
Raymond and Emily live in the farmhouse behind the barn with their children, Archie and Lottie, and are on hand if you need anything. They spent their childhood holidays in nearby East Portlemouth so it seemed the right place to come and settle when they left London. Their aim was to create the perfect rural hideaway that was homely but also stylish and as sustainable as possible.
We couldn't have been happier with our stay. Stunning house and interiors, beautiful gardens - so much space both inside and outside. The house was fully equipped with absolutely everything we could ever need. Very kid-friendly too (they loved the chickens and the pool). Would go back in a heartbeat
