The Experience
Views soar up the Jurassic coast all the way to Chesil Beach and on to Portland Bill. It sits high on the hill with one foot in town and the other paddling in the water. Directly below, the Cobb curls into the sea. Outside, there’s a sun-trapping garden, where guests fall asleep in deckchairs, then a lookout tower with big sea views for a romantic dinner for two.
Inside, an easy elegance flows: stripped wood floors, windows everywhere, an airy bar for pre-dinner drinks, an attractive sitting room with lots of books. There’s a smart breakfast room (delicious continental or full English, smoked salmon with avocado, poached eggs) that could double as a ballroom, then a sun-filled conservatory for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Both offer tasty, local food – perhaps Lyme Bay scallops, chicken with cavolo nero, a white chocolate mousse.

Our visit to the Alexandra Hotel exceeded our expectations. We received a warm welcome and staff were always helpful and friendly. Our room was lovely with a magnificent sea view. Breakfast was excellent and the atmosphere in the restaurant was peaceful and classy. We made full use of the beautiful grounds and appreciated the easy access to the sea front. We weren't able to park at the hotel due to the small number of spaces but parking was available nearby. Our trip was just for two nights but we came away feeling fully refreshed and with lovely memories.

This is a fabulous hotel. It has a lovely ambience and beautiful gardens with wonderful views. Although it is only a few minutes walk from the beach and town centre, with bars and restaurants, it is an oasis of calm. All the staff are wholly professional - friendly and efficient and keen to make your staff as enjoyable as possible. We only ate breakfast in the hotel but again the service was excellent and there was a wide range of quality options. The restaurant and conservatory are very attractive. We are already looking forward to our next stay at The Alexandra.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants on the high street. The beach is a 2-minute walk for lovely picnics, swimming and paddle boarding, foraging for fossils. Sandy beaches are also nearby and you can join the Coast Path with a packed lunch ordered from the hotel. There are plenty of activities from January's costumed hurl into the sea to fireworks in November.

A lovely hotel in a beautiful location, friendly and helpful staff, a great welcome, very comfortable bedrooms and well equipped bathrooms, beautiful views of the gardens and Lyme Regis Bay. The food is excellent, plenty of choice and very well presented - excellent service, a wonderful breakfast buffet with cooked food to order as well, a very friendly, welcoming, unstuffy hotel in a lovely town. Plenty to do and see in the area - walks, swimming, kayaking, fishing trips and so on.
