The Hut

We loved The Hut so much that we returned for our second visit within a matter of months! We had the best holiday, 'getting away from it all'; walking the dog along the stunning coastal paths, beaches, through woods and fields, returning for cosy fireside evenings, the Aga keeping us toasty and cooking our food to perfection. We were awed by the stars at night and the beautiful sunrises - which are conveniently late in winter ; ) Once again a huge thanks to Mark and Susan for the hospitable touches, and for their vision in creating such a magical place. We will be back! : )

The Hut - a slight misnomer for such a spacious and well appointed abode - is a piece of paradise! It's so secluded, so peaceful…time slows down...is spent watching the cows grazing in the field, the birds flitting about the trees, the changing light, the stars at night….the overarching beauty of The Hut is that you feel immersed in nature. Yet it's super comfortable, relaxing and warm and cosy. Plenty of space to hang out - & a v big bath! Mark & Susan are great hosts: welcome hospitality touches + Mark provided great local intel! We didn’t want to leave (nor did the dog). Highly recommend!

What a welcome retreat The Hut proved to be. It's set in beautiful countryside with amazing views from the glass fronted lounge, wrap around decking and garden. The noisiest it got was the sound of a horse walking by! We loved the rustic look of the place, with all the lovely timber, yet The Hut is also very well fitted out with everything you need. The bed is incredibly comfortable, as are the sofas, and the bathroom has a huge bath and a very good shower. We went during the heat wave, so we didn't get to use the log burner - I think we'll have to make a winter visit!

A very sacred space to retreat from the busy ness of "life". I have been returning here at numerous times of year for a number of years now. I cannot recommend this haven of peace enough. A truly comfortable stay surrounded by birdsong and the occasional "moo" or "hoot". Beautiful woodland walks and hillside tracks right on your doorstep as well as easy access to the beach and some fine restaurants in the area. Mark is a wonderful host and will leave you in total seclusion unless of course you ever need for anything, though to date I have been more than contented. I will return again!

What a wonderful find. The Hut is so comfortable, with lots of room to chill out if you don't feel like venturing out. The setting is so quiet and tranquil, the perfect place to get away to recharge your batteries. There are lots of walks from the property so there is no need to get into the car during your stay, just stock up on food and drink before you arrive! We really loved our short stay, thank you very much for creating this perfect place to share.

If your are looking for a cosy, secluded stay out in the countryside, the Hut is the place to be. Stunning views, wonderful walks on your doorstep. The only sound that you will hear are the songs of the birds. If the weather isn’t that nice to go out, the hut is comfortable to spend your day, with good wifi, a cosy woodburner and a nice bath. The kitchen is equipped with a big fridge so you can bring your own food for the whole week if you want to. About 6 miles away is the coastal town Lyme Regis which is worth a visit.

Off the beaten track in the middle of nowhere. Perfect. A remarkable, rare (re)treat. And Mark truly an amicable owner. Hidden down a track and such a surprise to find somewhere quite so ‘first-impression’ welcoming, instantly calming, captivating. Yes, the dramatic countryside is the main event, but few things gave greater pleasure than wandering back to such a revitalising ‘cuddle of a cabin’, where all expectations are positively met. Birdsong by day; wood burner by night; privacy at all times. A genuinely outstanding rural experience; wholly recommended to anyone seeking fabulous memories!

Thank you for a fantastic week in your wonderful Hut and its fabulous surroundings, there aren't many huts I could easily spend several months in, there wasn't a thing that had been overlooked. We also had the best of both seasons with a tropical(if you're from Scotland!)first half of the week and a more autumnal but equally beautiful second half exploring our beloved West Dorset again. We will definitely book again next year and our stay at The Hut this year has has convinced us that our future almost certainly lies in West Dorset

Just walking down the path with our bags and German Shepard you can feel the Hut work it’s secluded magic on you. Nestled in the crook of green hills and active wildlife the hut just takes you in and warms you with it’s AGA heart. It’s our 4th time here... The Hut offers as great base to explore the great beaches or gastronomic haunts or just a place to take advantage of poor mobile signal and an opportunity to disconnect. See you in 2020 for the 5th time.

This is our fourth time at The Hut and we just love it! Ideal for every type of person - those that want to go and explore, those that wish to walk everywhere and breathe in the most amazing views and for those just like us that actually just want to shut the world out for a little while. It’s warm, it’s so quiet and peaceful and above all we can choose not to see a single soul for our entire holiday 😉 However, when we feel a bit more social we can head out in any direction for an adventure. It’s like the Hut gives us a welcome embrace when we light the fire and knows just what we need!

We just wanted to thank the owners so much for making the Hut available as a holiday retreat. It really is a little piece of heaven. We had a wonderfully restorative few days. It was perfect. Just what we needed. The Hut was wonderful to return to each day. Such a relaxing and beautiful place to be.

The Hut is a hidden gem with a wall of windows that look onto a rising tsunami of lush, rolling countryside. No people around. No street lights. No cars. Just birds (and later bats!) flying around. Bliss. Inside, there are rustic features that make this a proper, very special stay in the country, a world apart from standard accommodations in the region. The terrific little kitchen, the fantastic wood burner, and the perfect sofas were glorious. Proximity to beaches, good restaurants, and the coastal path were amazing also. We could have stayed a lot longer and we will be back.

What a wonderful place to get away from it all. The location is nearly of the beaten track, and what a fantastic view from “The Hut”. Just a short drive from Bridport and Axminster. Fantastic walks and the accommodation is just right for a cosy night in. Everything you need for a relaxed stay away, with mod cons. Mark and Sue really have nailed it with this accommodation, relaxing and well appointed. We would really like to return soon.

We chose The Dorset Hut for our first anniversary over Easter (2019) and it was just wonderful. We were blessed with fantastic weather but the Hut itself could not have been more perfect. It was so lovely and cosy with amazing views over the countryside. Completely peaceful and relaxing. Mark and Sue were the perfect hosts, helpful and responsive to email queries. We are already planning our next trip there!

The Hut exceeded our expectations, providing a blissful sense of being in the landscape. The beautiful location manages to combine a feeling of seclusion and wildness with accessibility to amenities in Bridport, Axminster, & Lyme, as well as the spectacular Dorset coastline. Despite the local attractions, we ended up wanting to spend time at the Hut, exploring the walks on its doorsteps, and just enjoying its calmness. The peace at night was also remarkable - punctuated only by the occasional owl or fox.

The hut is a unique place, full of charm and character. It's in the middle of nowhere so you will not be disturbed, just the sheep and horses in the nearby field. Views to die for, log burner, AGA and a stack of DVDs to keep you entertained in the evening. Lyme Regis and the coast is just 5 miles away. The ultimate getaway for a couple looking to take themselves out of the world for a while!

We absolutely love our visits to the hut. It is the perfect escape to break up the winter. Great walks to explore and pub lunches in the area before coming back to cosy seclusion with the coal fired Aga and log burning fire. The oak frame and timber construction give the hut real character and there is plenty of room to stretch out and relax.

We had a lovely time at The Hut. Spacious yet very warm, cosy and comfortable. Good walks from the door. Lovely views. Our dog enjoyed it too.

This was our 3rd visit to The Hut - a place we just absolutely love and so does our dog! From the minute we arrive we feel we are at home....and never ever get bored of the view...whatever the weather it continuously changes and so much wildlife to appreciate. My husband had a close encounter with a tawny owl one evening ....such a special moment. The location for visiting other places in Dorset is perfect too. We can't wait to return again....

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hut, which combines a barn-like sense of space with great coziness, warmth and comfort. With all that wood, and the weather playing up outside, it sometimes resembled an old sailing vessel, watertight and seaworthy. Nice touches include the wheelbarrow for luggage and an ample supply of logs (other owners please note). The tucked-away position ensures privacy and quiet, but the attractions of West Dorset are close at hand (Satnav helps). And the solid-fuel Aga is a feat of engineering!
