Abbey Home Farm: Lower Wiggold Cottage

A cheerful cottage, attached to Hilary’s daughter’s house, surrounded by fields that the family has farmed for generations. Zip past cows, chickens and organic vegetable gardens, park at the bottom and wander up to your charming eco retreat (the A429 is close but you won’t hear it from inside). Solar panels, air-source heat pump, logs from the sustainably managed coppice, and water from the borehole make your stay as green as can be. Find blush-red Ikea-style sofa and chairs in front of a warming wood-burner in the sitting room and Indian prints adorning the walls in the sunny yellow kitchen. Upstairs to a spic-and-span bathroom, a homely twin and a roomy double; the double bed carved from cherry wood from the farm. The Chester-Masters’ award-winning organic shop and café is a 20-minute meander: pop in for lunches, tea and cake or stock up on milk, cheese, meat and veggies – all produced on the farm! A south-facing garden, woodland walks from the door, cookery, cheese-making courses and farm tours mean you’ll be happy to stay put but do head out, the Cotswolds lie at your feet.
