The Experience

Oak doors open to a stylish contemporary interior, filled by light and space.

Under-floor heating keeps the slate floor warm on cool days, while the high ceiling helps the airy feel. A lime-washed staircase leads to a mezzanine bedroom of uncluttered simplicity with long views across the valley – and there’s a day bed for an extra guest. Stay on a B&B or self-catering basis, with breakfast ingredients delivered as you wish: local eggs and honey, organic milk, jams, good bread, muesli, granola, fruit and juice.

Beautiful walks start from the door – join the Cotswold Way, or cover the three miles to Laurie Lee’s favourite pub, The Woolpack Inn, Slad. If you fancy a spin, Stroud is a ten minute drive, with its famous farmers market every Saturday. Cheltenham and Gloucester are close, too. In summer, open the tri-fold doors and let the sun pour in; in winter, relax on the sofa, play games, read or watch one of the many DVDs.

Many thanks Sara, we both had a very relaxing enjoyable break in your lovely Studio. Some lovely walks, meals out and of course rain! The Cotswold Way is a beautiful walking route. Very best wishes. Highly recommended.

Richard, UK

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for our amazing stay in your Studio. We had a fabulous time and it was comfy, warm and incredibly clean. I will be recommending to anyone I know visiting Painswick. Thanks so much again for being a lovely host.

Ally &, UK

Thank you Sara – your apartment is just lovely! We have had a wonderful stay here, thoroughly recommending eating at St Michaels Bistro and The Falcon – just a little walk away in beautiful Painswick. Sara – you have catered for every need and will certainly recommend you and Mayfield to our family + friends. Best wishes, Jenny & John

The studio is extremely well designed & very comfortable. Sara is a lovely host & nothing is to much trouble for her she makes sure you have everything you could need, including the most delicious flapjacks, fresh bread & preserves. Off road parking is secure.

Christine

What a great studio! What a great town! What a great hostess! Many thanks.

Grant & Lorraine, Sydney

Stunning Studio in a stunning location! Got lucky with the weather so we could make the most of the surrounding area. Rococo Gardens and back is a good walk. The Oak pub is great, good food and drink and not a long walk either. Sara you are the perfect host! We felt extremely relaxed, cozy and at home here. Will definitely come back!

Matt & Rach

Thank you for making our weekend so enjoyable and easy. From all the breakfast goodies to safe parking for our bikes. The Studio is fabulous - just as Sawday's said it would be.

Jenny & Kevin

Fantastic studio, ideal for a couple to explore the Cotswolds! Beautifully decorated and super comfy. Would definitely recommend!

Ryan & Linda

We had a fabulous stay at your wonderful Studio. The treats and breakfast supplies were excellent and really appreciated, the luxury ‘no nasties’ toiletries as well. The loft bed was comfy, the fan was a thoughtful touch, and waking up to the sunrise was so nice. Painswick was an outstanding place to travel from for our thoroughly foodie long weekend, and the surrounds were stunning. Thank you for the effort you have clearly invested to make this a wonderful place to stay.

Poornima & Satish

What a wonderful Studio! Couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay whilst we pottered about the Cotswolds. Beautiful design and furniture, lovely little touches and a peaceful comfy nights sleep. Thank you!

Emily

Many thanks Sara for a lovely weekend. A very nice place to stay for a long weekend and a beautiful Studio. Thoroughly recommended! Lovely walks.

Richard & Jan, Buckinghamshire

We just had a great weekend at Mayfield Studio. Sara was very helpful and recommended various places to visit in the area. She was also the kindest host to our baby and made sure we had everything we needed. The Studio was spotless, nicely decorated and in the perfect location to visit the Cotswolds. We highly recommend it!

Elisa, Midsomer Norton

Mayfield Studio is nestled in the heart of the authentic South Cotswolds village of Painswick, next to Slad, where Laurie Lee grew up. Sara (who lives next door but completely separate) made us feel truly welcome and told us of local walks and the best places to eat. The studio is spotless and stylish with a spacious modern feel. There are heaps of area guide books, walking books, local maps etc. It is just the place to relax after a hard (but enjoyable) day walking. Sara provided local farm eggs, freshly baked bread, muesli and delicious cookies. We can't recommend the studio highly enough.

Keith & Caroline

A very cool space that was both impressive to look at but also very comfortable. The studio was just a short walk from all the amenities in Painswick and a great base to explore further. Recommended for whatever weekend you might be after.

Steve

Sara's place is absolutely brilliant - beautiful location, stylish apartment and a lovely breakfast. Sara was so helpful giving us tips about the local area. Painswick is the perfect location to stay for exploring the Cotswolds. Highly recommend!!

Anna & Kim

Thank you for a brilliant stay in such a relaxing and stylish environment! From when we arrived we felt welcome and appreciated your recommendations within the local area. The added little bits for breakfast were a lovely touch. Will definitely recommend to friends and family.

Lewis & Lilley

Whether you're walking the Cotswold Way or just fancy a quiet weekend to yourselves in a classical English town, look no further than Mayfield Studio. Sara will welcome you with open arms into her modern yet homely converted outbuilding, whilst you relax before heading to a fantastic local pub for dinner.

Sarah, Sawday's inspector

Thank you for a wonderful stay Sara! We had such a comfy and relaxing time in the Studio although it has only increased our love of Ercol! The Studio is beautifully decorated and has everything we needed. We loved all the tasty bread, juice and other treats.

Nancy & Rob

spotless, tastefully designed modern studio in the most beautiful and unspoiled village; Sara was attentive to all we needed to settle in for a few days of amazing walks; and we left with plenty more to explore at the next visit; highly recommended

Anne

A lovely place to stay in a beautiful village. Everything the description said and more, and reality even better than the pictures. We loved staying here and it made the Painswick visit even more special.

Location

The neighbourhood

Painswick is a beautiful Cotswold stone village dating back to the 1100s. It was made prosperous as a wool town and is known as 'The Queen of the Cotswolds’. Pubs, restaurants, a cafe and convenience store are within easy walking distance. The Royal Oak is a five-minute walk, The Falcon and The Painswick Hotel are both a ten-minute stroll. The Cotswold Way passes through the village. The artistic town of Stroud is three miles away where there’s a train station and famous farmer’s market. The Regency town of Cheltenham, for horse racing and festivals, is ten miles.

Local points of interest from Sara Kirby

  • Painswick is a beautiful Cotswold stone village dating back to the 15th Century. There are fantastic walks from the village including the Cotswold Way.
  • The Studio is in walking or biking distance of lovely country pubs, farmer's markets, restaurants and cafés. There is safe storage for bikes and a hose for washing them down and bicycles and motorbikes can be kept safely at the property.
  • There are artist's studios to visit in the village and many festivals including the Arts, Science, Music and Literature and Horse racing which take place throughout the year in nearby Cheltenham..
  • The area is also famous for historic houses and gardens such as Hidcote, Kelmscott Manor, Barnsley House, Snowshill, Miserden and the Rococo Gardens which is in Painswick.
  • There are many excellent centres nearby if you are interested in antiques, vintage and retro furniture and collectables, I have lots of contacts and information!
  • If the weather is bad there is a television, DVD's, a games console, board games, books and magazines and plenty of space to spread out and relax.
