The Experience

Amelia and Marcus have transformed a derelict 17th-century pub overlooking the village common into a handsome inn with two stylish dining rooms, a book-lined garden room and a cosy snug with an open fire for winter. Sit at the friendly bar or in one of the many nooks and crannies.

Bedrooms are in the converted barns set around a courtyard in the garden; find some homemade shortbread as a welcome. Breakfast is cooked or continental; you can choose anything you like cooked to order. You’ll want to stay for lunch and dinner too – the French chef’s hearty pub food attracts plenty of locals.

On sunny days you’ll be supping a hand-drawn local ale in the large garden, playing croquet or listening to the comforting sound of leather on willow from the cricket club. Norwich is 20 miles, and the north Norfolk coast about the same.

The Brisley Bell is another example of the enthusiasm and flair of a young couple turning round completely an almost derelict old country pub, to retain its original appeal but through careful additions to add modern style and attention to the needs of the guests, which are clearly paramount.

The pub and dining rooms provide an elegant decor with the casual atmosphere of a country pub creating a comfortable place to relax by the fire or enjoy an excellent meal. The seasonal menu offers delicious options from quality soups, fresh fish, pate or hearty steaks. Our room was gorgeous with every detail provided including a bath tub in the room together with en suite bathroom. The gardens are cleverly designed with both spacious areas and quiet corners in which to enjoy a drink. We definitely plan to return soon. Highly recommended.

A very enjoyable stay. A beautifully decorated room. The bathroom is also lovely and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. The pub has a great vibe and the food is excellent. Choice of breakfast in the morning was more exciting than most hotels. We were very sad to have to leave.

The Brisley Bell we found is a perfect location for a few days recouperation or a special occasion to return to and feel refreshed. We loved our sumptuous room, Hunny, with the enourmous cast iron bath and espresso machine. We would thoroughly recommend dinner at The Bell served with a smile by their delightful and professional team. We loved our stay and will definately return.

The Brisley Bell is located at the edge of the village of Brisley, in the Brecklands, a protected area of gorse and sandy heaths that is of special interest because of its often unusual flora and fauna; it's a favourite of bird enthusiasts, walkers and cyclists. NORWICH CITY: a wonderful fusion of the modern & historic. As well as being the most complete medieval city in the UK, it has a flourishing arts, music and cultural scene, superb independent and high street shops, lively restaurants, bars and night life.
COUNTRY ESTATES: if you're a National Trust enthusiast, we've a plethora of beautiful houses, gardens and grounds to visit. From Sandringham estate and Blickling Hall to Holkham estate and Houghton Hall.
NORTH NORFOLK’S HERITAGE COASTLINE: Most people visit our coast for the wonderful birdwatching that the area presents, the vast open beaches and the diversity of landscape and terrain, (salt-marshes, woods, shingled beaches, clifftops and sand dunes).
HOLT: A charming Georgian town in North Norfolk. Beautiful market square with lots of interesting shops and plenty of antiques. Not far from Blakeney if you’re planning a boat trip to see the seals.
PENSTHORPE NATURE RESERVE: Spectacular gardens with nature trails throughout that are great for birdwatching or casual strolls. There’s an impressive children’s play area that goes down just as well as the scrummy cakes in the nearby café.

Introducing

Marcus Seaman & Amelia Nicholson

Marcus was a farmer before he and Amelia took over the inn. He has practical skills and a keen eye for design; he also devised the unusual copper bar. Amelia was a producer/director in professional theatre for much of her previous career and also bought and sold the odd antique. They are both keen cricketers and on taking over the pub they sponsored the village cricket club on the common outside and are active members.
