The Experience

Drive three miles from the main road and up one of the Upper Coquetdale hills to reach Kidlandlees. At 1400 feet above sea level, it’s totally remote here and the views from your hilltop setting are spectacular.

Your semi-detached barn is one of five off-grid properties that were renovated by Matthew and Terri, who live in The School House. Electricity is provided by solar panels and wind turbines. You’ll find a welcome hamper of locally produced foods and a bottle of champagne, plus bread, milk, butter and eggs.

Bring the dog and set off for long walks from your door, bikes for challenging climbs and binoculars for birdlife; return to a cosy cottage with a wood-burner and plenty of logs. Fire up the barbecue in your garden and watch the stars come out.

Reviews

A beautifully appointed accommodation in a picturesque setting with a superb standard of cleanliness, catering for all of our needs. Communication was excellent and we will definitely return for a truly relaxing holiday.

Matt, Halesowen

Wow. What an outstanding holiday that was. I am extremely fussy but on arrival the cottage was perfect in every way - pristine and well equipped, beautiful linen and amazing attention to detail. The setting is absolutely stunning and impressive efforts to have little impact on the environment. It is a paradise. We will def be back 🥰

Ginette, Herts

Beautiful location, so quiet. Enjoyed seeing some shooting stars. Cottage very comfortable, we felt very spoiled.

Rachel, Derby

We had a fantastic long weekend here to celebrate my 50th birthday! Leyland Barn is an amazing property and has absolutely everything you need for your stay in total luxury! Kidlandlee itself is just stunning. There is no feeling like sitting outside on an evening looking out over the hills and forest in silence. A birthday I will never forget!

Collette, Newcastle upon Tyne

Stayed at Kidlandlee several times now and love coming back to this beautiful location, the views from the cottages are simply stunning, walks in all directions from your front door, Leyland Barn itself is home from home, very comfortable, doggy friendly 🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺all the amenities you need and very very clean, it really is five star accommodation, unfortunately this holiday has come to an end ☹️ but already booked to come back up this August 👍🏻😁 Paul, Karen, plus the woods Monty & Woody

Kidlandlee provides an alternative definition for "paradise". What it lacks in golden sands and turquoise seas, it more than makes up for with peace and quiet, amazing views to the horizon, endless walks and cycle rides from the doorstep, and wildlife - red squirrels and hares eating in the garden with numerous birds. Leyland Barn provides wonderful accommodation with all things catered for and lovely details. Terri is a friendly host and made the whole booking, checking in/out process straightforward. Ideally located for other attractions like Holy Island, Alnwick Castle and Hadrians Wall

David, Milton Keynes

Beautiful accommodation and very well appointed too, with everything we needed or wanted for a relaxing stay. Terri was very friendly and a fantastic host with communication and booking very easy. Leyland Barn was very clean, welcoming and cosy, it also smelt gorgeous too ! The location is very quiet with wonderful views right from your window. We went on some great walks with no need to take a car journey unless you wanted to. One of the best places we have stayed and we will definitely return here.

Nicola, Northumberland

A beautifully equipped and furnished cottage in a most stunning location - perfect for walking, cycling, birdwatching, exploring the Northumberland National Park or somewhere to just chill, relax and look at the views!

Location

The neighbourhood

Kidlandlees is set in a Dark Sky area and has incredible views over the hills of Upper Coquetdale and below the Coquet Valley over to the Simonside Hills. It’s a place to get away from it all – four miles to the nearest village and 14 miles to the nearest shop in Rothbury. You’re just nine miles from the Scottish border. Apart from Matthew and Terri and guests in the other three cottages, all you will see are birds and sheep and the occasional walker.

Introducing

Terri & Matthew Stock

Terri and Matthew moved to Kidlandlee Estate from Kent in 2017 with their children and two Labradors. Matthew had a renovation business which he has put to good use on the cottages and buildings, and Terri was a stage manager in the theatre in London for a number of years. They hope their guests enjoy the peace and tranquillity, have fun exploring the hills, valleys and beaches and totally unwind during their stay.
