The Experience
Your semi-detached barn was built from the original stones of a cattle barn – one of four properties that have been renovated by Terri and Matthew. They are completely off-grid, with electricity being provided by solar panels and wind turbines.
Find a welcome hamper from Tully’s of Rothbury and a bottle of champagne plus breakfast basics and an endless supply of logs. If you’re stuck inside there are books and board games or you can simply gaze at the views.
Explore the National Park, walk all day without meeting another soul, cycle some challenging hills and dips or hop in the car to the nearest town Rothbury to stock up. Cragside is a fascinating house and garden nearby. You have a good eating out spot for summer evenings with a barbecue and the best ‘dark sky status’ views on clear nights.

Our second stay in the Old Barn, it was every bit better than the first. This is 5 Star Accommodation, in a 5 Star location! The cottage is immaculate and deceptively spacious, and it has everything you need for a self catering holiday, all the mod cons….A lovely welcome pack to get you started, and the essentials too. If you want a quiet peaceful holiday in stunningly beautiful surroundings, this is the place for you, we would highly recommend it, and you also have the places to visit in Northumberland, should you want to travel a bit. Terri & Mathew are great hosts, and nothings a bother.

Blissful location and stunning accommodation. We loved the social layout of kitchen/living room. Powerful hot shower, loads of wood for the woodburner and lots of lovely touches. Very friendly and accommodating staff.

Wow, what an amazing place you have here. We are absolutely blown away with everything. There is nothing you haven't thought of. The treats just keep on giving and the attention to detail is like nothing we've experienced before. We have been on many luxury holidays, home and away, but we are just in awe at what you are doing her at Kidlandlee. Your story is heartwarming too. We're a couple of animal, outdoor, nature loving...folk, so to be here experiencing first hand your amazing efforts is a real treat for us. Thank you for everything, it is absolute bliss to be here

Location
The neighbourhood
Kidlandlees is set in a Dark Sky area and has incredible views over the hills of Upper Coquetdale and below the Coquet Valley over to the Simonside Hills. It’s a place to get away from it all – four miles to the nearest village and 14 miles to the nearest shop in Rothbury. You’re just nine miles from the Scottish border. Apart from Matthew and Terri and guests in the other three cottages, all you will see are birds and sheep and the occasional walker.
Local points of interest from Terri & Matthew Stock
- Visit Craigside House! A wonderful day out for the whole family and doggies too. Building camps in the woods, nature trails, kayaking and canoeing on the lake. Beautiful gardens and house full of local history and inventions. Our favourite place to go!
- For Harry Potter fans! Alnwick Castle is a fantastic day out for all the family. Learn about the history of Alnwick and enjoy the beautiful award-winning gardens created by The Duchess of Northumberland. Activities, concerts and magical fun!
- Barter Books is one of the biggest second-hand book stores in the country. Great for rainy days. Preserved beautifully it is located in the old Alnwick Train Station. Sit, read and relax with a cuppa in restored waiting rooms with open fires. Dogs welcome
- Holy Island and the Farne Islands are a great day out. Spot seals and puffins as you travel by boat. Visit the home of Grace Darling, Longstone Light House and find out how her amazing courage inspired the first life boats to patrol our shores.
- Alnmouth Beach is the start of amazing castle walks and the beach itself is stunning and the local’s favourite.. The Village has amazing coffee shops and dog friendly pubs. Visit the School House Gallery for famous local art work and cultural events.
- The Star Inn in Harbottle is loved by guests for its warm welcome and is at the heart of the community. You can dine in or pick up a take away on your way back to the cottage. It's dog friendly too so you can take them with you.

Introducing
Terri & Matthew Stock
Terri and Matthew moved to Kidlandlee Estate from Kent in 2017 with their children and two Labradors. Matthew had a renovation business which he has put to good use on the cottages and buildings, and Terri was a stage manager in the theatre in London for a number of years. They hope their guests enjoy the peace and tranquillity, have fun exploring the hills, valleys and beaches and totally unwind during their stay.
We were excited about our visit to The Old Barn at Kidlandlee & it didn’t disappoint. Every detail has been thought of. The accommodation is stylishly done, incredibly well equipped & very comfortable. For those holidaying with dogs, it is perfect. There is a large, enclosed garden with stunning views and some amazing walks from the cottage itself or from Harbottle or Alnwick. We holiday in the UK frequently as we enjoy holidaying with our two Labradors and this is the best dog friendly accommodation we’ve stayed in. We can’t recommend it highly enough and we will definitely be back.
