The Experience

You’re immersed in beautiful countryside and everything slows down the moment you open the gate. If you enjoy your own space, spread out in the annexe with a wet room or find upstairs bedrooms in the house – pretty and fresh with deeply comfortable beds and Rosie’s paintings.

Breakfast in the cottage dining room with garden views, or al fresco: honey from the bees plus anything you ask for, all locally sourced and delicious. David might go foraging or catch a trout for supper; bring your own wine and wander the garden – masses of colour, rare trees and an ample veg patch where five types of tomato grow.

Gorgeous walks start from the door – take a footpath to Barrington Court or borrow their own OS map for longer hikes. Return to a quiet spot by the fire, stay in for one of David’s three-course dinners, or head out for supper at the Lamb and Lion in Hambridge. Sleep deeply in the profound peace, forget your city cares.

B&B as it should be - an open door, warming fires, great food. a beautiful garden for balmy days and interesting, interested hosts who make every stay special. The surrounding countryside is a paradise for walkers and nature lovers.

What a gem. We felt like we were staying in Provence. Stunning location. Fantastic house and garden. David and Rosie were charming, and so very helpful, keen to ensure we had a great couple of days with them. The cottage is gorgeous, spotlessly clean and well appointed with quality furniture and furnishings. Very comfy beds and bed linen. The breakfasts were outstanding. Fresh eggs from the ducks or chickens you see in the garden. Perfectly cooked. The most amazing fruit compote I’ve ever tasted. We had dinner plans but next time I will dine with them as the food was excellent. Thank you

I spent 2 nights at Brewers Cottage while visiting the area to attend a local event. David and Rosie are exceptional hosts and my stay with them was both enjoyable and very relaxing. I had a comfortable double room in the main house and had two very peaceful nights in the quiet of the countryside. David is an excellent cook and the full English breakfast (with all local ingredients) was definitely the best I have ever had. I had also booked dinner for the first night and that was also very good. Highly recommended for anyone looking for "get away from it all" break.

We had two nights with David and Rosemary and David cooked a beautiful meal on my birthday. The house is lovely in a fabulous location close to some interesting places such as Barrington Court. It is very tasteful and comfortable and we slept very well in a most comfy bed with lovely bed linen and fluffy towels. We were looked after impeccably but not intrusively at all. Breakfast and dinner were heavenly. The flavours were just amazing. David is an excellent cook and sources ingredients locally. It was like having a top chef cook for you at home. Highly recommended- we will be back.

Words cannot express how wonderful this place is and how inviting and warm both David and Rosie are. Set in a quiet part of the countryside, it's the perfect place for one to recharge and rejuvenate. To sum up, it's good for the soul. The room we had was excellent and the breakfast top notch. David is an excellent chef! They've got some lovely pets that roam freely in their beautiful garden. Hope the 3 little new ones are there when we return ;) ! Can't wait to return. Multiple thumbs up.

The neighbourhood

Visit Burrow Hill Cider just up the road for tours and tastings. Head to St Mary's Church in Isle Abbotts for the superb West Tower and eight 'hunky punks', or Swell for a 12th-century chapel with its original porch doorway. Garden lovers will delight in Forde Abbey, Tintinhull and Lytes Cary. Explore Langport with its tall buildings, narrow street and Friday market, and join the Parrett Trail.

Local points of interest from David & Rosie Darrah

  • We are in the heart of rural Somerset, on the edge of a quiet hamlet, close to the Levels. While we are a little off the beaten track, we are close to many historic market towns and villages and are surrounded by miles and miles of wonderful countryside.
  • The National Trust opens houses and gardens all over Somerset; Barrington Court, Montacute House, Lytes Cary Manor and Tintinhull House to name just a few,. There are also other lovely gardens to visit at Hestercombe, Forde Abbey and East Lambrook Manor.
  • For walkers and nature lovers this part of Somerset is a slice of heaven. The surrounding countryside is largely unspoilt, with big skies, wonderful views, abundant birdlife and several RSPB and Wildlife reserves to visit nearby.
  • The Somerset Cider Brandy Company, the Artisan workshops at Barrington Court and Brown & Forrest Smokery are just up the road. There are also some outstanding places to eat nearby. Ask for a list before your visit, so you can book in advance.
  • We are mid-way between the North and the Jurassic South Coast, both being less than an hour away. Exmoor, the Blackdown Hills, the Mendips and the Quantocks are all close by. Perfect walking country with stunning views and plenty of great pubs for lunch.
  • If you don't feel like going out on one of the nights of your stay, we may be able to provide you an evening meal. We use only the best ingredients, locally sourced meat game, fruit and vegetables and day boat fish from Lyme Bay. All diets are catered for.

Introducing

David & Rosie Darrah

David and Rosie moved here from Hampshire in 2015 and opened the B&B in 2016. Rosie is an artist and etcher and has a studio in the garden. David does a bit of consultancy work and is an accomplished cook – he's also a keen fly fisherman, grows a few vegetables, enjoys foraging and looks after their beehives. They are easy-going, charming hosts.
