The Experience
David and Rosie are relaxed hosts and everything slows down the moment you open the gate. If you enjoy your own space, spread out in the annexe with a wet room or find upstairs bedrooms white and fresh with lavender and Rosie’s paintings. Breakfast in the neat cottage dining room or al fresco: honey from the bees plus anything you ask for, David might go foraging or catch a trout for supper; bring your own wine and wander the garden with a glass – masses of colour, rare trees, ample veg patch where five types of tomato grow! Cider tasting is just up the road, Barrington Court and market town Ilminster are close.

We had a surprise 50th to attend in the area and also wanted a quiet place to stay after the party! Found Brewers Cottage and thought the location would be ideal. We were certainly not let down at all. David and Rosie were incredibly helpful with the booking and also organised local transport for us to get the party and home again so we could enjoy a tipple or two! Nothing was too to much trouble. The place was lovely even in cold wet February and the room/facilities were superb and beautifully done. Breakfast was fabulous in a lovely warm room with open fire! Highly Recommended & great hosts.

Excellent. We stayed in their annex room with a lovely wet room attached. David phoned a couple of weeks before our visit and discussed what we would like for dinner. We agreed on a fish pie and an apple frangipan tart, both of which were delicious. David and Rosie were very welcoming, and made sure we had everything we wanted. The room and bed were very comfortable, and the lighting just right for reading in bed.

David and Rosie were perfect hosts in a wonderful part of the country with good ideas of places to visit and an enthusiasm for the area. The room was clean and spacious and we had a terrace in their beautiful garden to read and acquaint ourselves with Mollie, their friendly cat. David knows his good food and it showed with the breakfast. Most of it was locally sourced from the yoghurt to the bacon and the honey to the logan berries picked from the garden in the morning. This area of Somerset has a feel of its own, and if you'd like to visit we'd highly recommend staying with David and Rosie.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from David & Rosie Darrah
- We are in the heart of rural Somerset, on the edge of a quiet hamlet, close to the Levels. While we are off the beaten track, we are close to many historic market towns and villages and are surrounded by miles and miles of wonderful countryside to explore.
- The National Trust opens houses and gardens all over Somerset; Barrington Court, Montacute House, Lytes Cary Manor and Tintinhull House to name just a few,. There are also other lovely gardens to visit at Hestercombe, Forde Abbey and East Lambrook Manor.
- For walkers and nature lovers this part of Somerset is a slice of heaven. The surrounding countryside is largely unspoilt, with big skies, wonderful views, abundant birdlife and fabulous RSPB and Wildlife reserves to visit nearby.
- The Somerset Cider Brandy Company, the Artisan workshops at Barrington Court and Brown & Forrest Smokery are just up the road. There are also some outstanding places to eat nearby. Ask for a list before your visit, so you can book in advance.
- We are mid-way between the North and the Jurassic South Coast, both being less than an hour away. Exmoor, the Blackdown Hills, the Mendips and the Quantocks are all close by. Perfect walking country with stunning views and plenty of great pubs for lunch.
- If you don't feel like going out for the evening on one of the nights of your stay, we may be able to provide an evening meal here. We use only quality ingredients, locally farmed meat, fruit and vegetables and day boat fish from Lyme Bay.

Extremely helpful and engaging hosts made our stay very enjoyable in the comfortable and well-appointed annexe. We had an excellent evening meal in front of the log fire in the cosy dining room; we learned the names of the hens and cockerel in the attractive garden and got lots of information about the local area. The annexe gave us privacy to enjoy the peaceful setting and to come and go as we wished.
