The Experience
A touch of the country in town – a buzzing town too: Frome is bursting with culture, galleries, quirky shops and great markets, all a short walk away. Connected by an impressive architect-designed walkway to the owners’ house, but facing the other way so you’ll feel nicely private, this generous 19th-century coach house overlooks big gardens.
Step into a pristine open-plan space – sitting room, dining room and smart kitchen blend into one, you’re warmed by a wood-burner and there are logs to get you going. The Greens like to support local craftsmen and food producers and send you a useful pack of information to help you get the best out of your stay. Your galleried bedroom above comes with a compact shower and a lovely low window that pulls the outside in. There’s a spare bedroom with a day bed too.
On warm evenings find a quiet spot in the pretty garden for a glass of wine before you head out to supper in town.

This was our third stay at the Coach House. As always we received a warm welcome from Nicola and our stay was wonderful. We had not been back since 2014, and still the standard was as high as ever. The house is comfortable, cosy, welcoming, clean, and well equipped including with loads of visitor information and nice extra touches. Nicola as always was keen to help and offer advice regarding our stay. This lovely place, which has a place in our hearts and to which we hope to return has been consistently excellent over the years we have stayed. Highly recommended!

Lovely stay at the coach house, everything we needed to cook with, the fresh flowers were so thoughtful and it’s great to arrive and have some lovely biscuits waiting. Beautiful, quiet and well cared for. Also we happened to be featured in the local paper that week and Nicola took the time and trouble to send us a copy. Wonderful host, Many Thanks!

Thank you Nicola and Chris for a lovely few days in the coach house. It is a lovely conversion and so quiet and yet so close to town. Also you thought of everything to make our stay enjoyable from local info to food essentials. We loved the local walks and took advantage of the proximity of good restaurants, cafes and music venues in Frome - overall a great break!

Location
The neighbourhood
The house sits on a hill, secluded, private and surrounded by nature. You can easily walk into town and the Sunday market is only five minutes. There are lots of good places to eat including The High Pavement and an authentic Italian restaurant, Castello. Bath is a half-hour drive, Wells 40 minutes. It's a 20-minute walk to Frome station for trains and there are regular buses from Market Place.
Local points of interest from Nicola & Chris Green
- Take time to explore the historic town of Frome. Seek out some of its 400 plus listed buildings, climb up steep cobbled Catherine Hill and wander along medieval Cheap Street. As a Walkers are Welcome accredited town you'll be glad of your walking boots!
- Buy local produce at the Frome Farmers Market, by the Boyle Cross at the bottom of Cheap Street, second Saturday of each month; and take in the festive atmosphere at the Independent Market, first Sunday of the month, Mar-Dec, with music, food and crafts.
- The Frome Festival is an annual 10 day celebration of the town’s unique arts scene held in July providing community events all over town and kicking off with the popular Food Feast offering a varied selection of food and drink stalls.
- 4 miles from Frome is the village of Mells, scattered around Mells Manor, home to the Asquith family. In drier months you can walk via Vallis Vale and Great Elm, looking out for the ruins of Fussell’s Ironworks on the footpath between Mells and Great Elm.
- Also 4 miles out of town is Longleat where your visit begins with a view of the grand stately home, one of the finest examples of Elizabethan architecture in Britain, set within 900 acres of ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped gardens and parkland.
- 9 miles away is Stourhead landscape garden, peaceful and beautiful at any time of year but especially stunning when the trees are in their Autumn splendour. Follow the loop around the huge lake and you will stumble across classical and gothic buildings.

We enjoyed our stay at the coach house enormously; it's just so comfortable and well appointed - everything we needed and all very easy to find. We were very taken with the town too; not only is it but a short walk away but has lots to offer - we were lucky to have picked a weekend when the Sunday market was taking place and had a fascinating time checking out all the stalls!
