The Experience

The Milking Parlour is the perfect retreat for a couple or two; find an airy living room, a private patio for sunny breakfasts, comfortable bedrooms with views over the South Downs and goose-down-topped beds to sink into after a day walking or cycling – footpaths leave from the door. Sandra loves welcoming guests and is on hand at the barn should you need anything. She leaves you a generous hamper with supplies for a continental breakfast – look forward to homemade organic bread, homemade granola and good coffee. On summer evenings, head straight out across fields to The Cock Inn for great food and local Harvey’s beer. You’ll find lots of great gardens and festivals to dip into at Glyndebourne (a few minutes’ drive) or head to Lewes for independent shops and cafés. The coast is within easy reach.

Reviews

The Milking Parlour at Little Norlington Barn is exceedingly well equipped and comfortable and located within walking distance of a very good pub and a short drive from Lewes and Brighton. Sandra is a thoughtful and helpful host providing great local information on pubs, walks and places to visit. Highly recommended!

Tony, Salisbury

The Milking Parlour is an absolutely lovely place to stay. It's bright, very comfortable and super clean. Sandra left an extensive and appetising selection of breakfast items for us, which was very welcome. The parlour is set in a pretty and quiet lane with extensive views over to the South Downs, yet within easy reach of Lewes, the coast and other days out. Sandra and Miles are excellent hosts; friendly and knowledgeable and they made our rather enthusiastic dog very welcome too! We really hope we can return for another visit before too long.

Ann, Saffron Walden

We had a wonderful stay here, Sandra and Miles are so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. We spent 4 days walking on the South Downs - beautiful. This is a great location with so many places easily accessible and then back to the Milking Parlour for relaxation and peace. The Milking parlour has everything you need and the extras. Very calm, as soon as you walk in it is so homely. Thank you.

Helen, Cobham Surrey

We had a wonderful stay at the Milking Parlour and would stay again! The barn conversion was immaculate so well thought out. The decor and facilities were fantastic. Power shower, lovely comfortable bed, super clean, well quipped kitchen, beautiful views of the South Downs with kind and considerate hosts to top it. Highly recommended.

Elizabeth, London

A lovely retreat in a wonderful quiet part of the country. The Milking Parlour is a well-equipped, spacious barn conversion that suited us and our canine friend perfectly. The ceiling upstairs is a little too low for comfort first thing in the morning but you soon get used to it. It's a great place for a short break or even longer - we stayed for eight nights and found something new to do every day. We'll be back!

Neil, London

We had five lovely nights staying in the Milking Parlour. On arrival we were met by Sandra who was so friendly; setting the tone for our stay. The Parlour was spotlessly clean and all furnishings and appliances high spec. Beautifully comfy beds made for great nights’ sleep with stunning views over the Sussex Downs to see on waking. A perfect location, beautiful views, perfect peace and quiet. Highly recommended.

Adrian, South Shields

A blissful few days here - what a superb place to stay! Everything comfortable, equipped to a very high standard and spotlessly clean. The views of the South Down are stunning and the sunny deck is the perfect place to sit with a glass and chill with the butterflies in the lavender. Sandra and Miles are totally delightful, charming, helpful hosts providing tips on things to do and delicious goodies of homemade bread, jam and their own honey. The area is a delight to explore with great walks, gardens to visit and excellent food at local pubs recommended by your hosts. Can't wait to go back!

Penny, UK

We’re just back from a very sunny week in the Milking Parlour - what a beautiful place to stay! It has been lovingly restored to a very high standard and was immaculately clean and very comfortable. Sandra’s welcome pack of delicious homemade goodies was excellent and we enjoyed the sunny terrace and the views across the South Downs, where we had some really great walks. It’s the perfect place for a relaxing holiday!

William, Solihull

Outstanding place to stay, delivered 100% on what was described and Sandra was a most helpful host. Roomy, comfortable, great terrace that caught the sun and top location.

Jonathan, London

Excellent peaceful stay here for 5 nights in glorious Sussex countryside. Our visit to the Milking Parlour was fantastic, Sandra was a perfect host and looked after all our requirements. Breakfast goodies were a delight, nothing was too much trouble and everything was spotless. We would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting to explore this delightful part of Sussex. Lewes the nearest town is beautiful. Thank you Sandra.

Helen, Bridport

We stayed for 3 nights in the milking parlour. It’s light, airy, very clean and missing nothing. So many little extras made this a special stay and well worth every penny. Daily refills of coffee ready to go in the cafetière, homemade cake, dishwasher emptied and the breakfast!! Without a doubt a treat from start to finish. Homemade jam, honey from the hive in the garden, homemade bread, homemade granola.... all totally scrumptious! The bedroom has dreamy views of the South Downs tho wouldn’t work if you’re tall! Special place to stay because of good attention to detail and a lovely host!

Claire, Tunbridge Wells

Delightful place to stay. High standards all round and the hospitality is second to none. We loved it.

Richard, Eastbourne

We had a friendly welcome from Sandra with tea and cake. Home cooked locally sourced breakfast was superb. Nothing was too much trouble. It's a great spot to explore the Sussex Downs and to visit Charleston and Glyndebourne. The accommodation in the barn was first class. A big thank you to Sandra and Miles for their great hospitality.

Vivien, Hertfordshire

Just excellent!

Toinon, Luxembourh

My boyfriend and I spent a perfect anniversary weekend in the Milking Parlour at Little Norlington Barn. The place itself was wonderfully bright, clean, nicely decorated with a well equipped kitchen and the most powerful shower ever! Sandra was beyond welcoming and friendly and was unbelievably accommodating to our dietary requests. The private decking catches the morning sun and the whole place has an incredible view of the South Downs. We had the most relaxing weekend and would recommend this gem to anyone. Hopefully we can stay again! Thank you Sandra!

Laura, Reading

A perfect B&B experience in the Sussex countryside. First class accommodation in a converted barn, excellent breakfasts with plenty of choice. A wonderful hostess, Sandra, who made the stay so pleasant, who made you feel at home and who was great conversationalist. I would stay again.

David, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

This beautifully converted barn is a gem, and the jewel in the crown is Sandra - our warm and bubbly host. An amazing breakfast, locally sourced, with home made goodies like yoghurt, breads and granola, will send you on your way each day. On your return , as you sink into the sofas in the spacious lounge, Sandra is there with tea, cake and lively conversation. Come back after supper to a log fire then climb the twisty stairs and fall into bed. Perfect.

Pauline, Bedford

We stayed for two nights in the separate apartment which was beautifully furnished & appointed. Originally a milking parlour, it offers total privacy with the option of self catering (Kitchen included). But there are lots of v.g. local pubs. Your stay includes wholesome Continental/Scandinavian style breakfast with lots of home made organic touches delivered in person by Sandra in a plentiful basket. English Breakfast available in Main Barn on request. Isolation makes it great for star gazing & stunning sunsets. Easy access to Lewes, Eastbourne, Hastings and all they offer. Host gets a 10!
