The Experience
Find sofas and coffee table by the open log fire, or perch on a bar stool with one of three local ales on hand pump, a craft beer or a glass of wine. Make sure you have a menu too – head chef Ben Miller produces brilliant modern British seasonal menus with an Asian twist, showcasing Sussex producers. All is flavoursome and beautifully presented.
Bedrooms (including two garden lodges and one in a cottage in the garden) are country chic with handmade beds, rich fabrics and colourful throws; bathrooms have Noble Isle lotions and potions. All the usual suspects at breakfast will set you up for wonderful walks on the South Downs Way or to visit Bignor Roman Villa, just a mile away.
Return for a warm-up by the fire with homemade cake, or on sunny days to hang out on one of the sun-trap rear terraces – lovely to sip something cooling here while you decide what to have for supper.
