The Experience
Nestled on the banks of the river Kennet, this gorgeous Georgian house is warm and relaxed, filled with interesting contemporary art. Bedrooms are charming and cosy in a traditional style, with swagged curtains and dreamy beds, chintz chairs and floral eiderdowns.
Two double bedrooms on the first floor share an en suite bathroom so they’re perfect for families or friends. On the top floor, a snug double and a twin, with sloping ceilings and dormer windows, share a shower room. Views over the pretty garden take in clouds of hydrangeas with the river and water meadow beyond.
With birdsong in the air and the sound of the river flowing past, breakfast can be a leisurely affair enjoyed outside. Ingredients are sourced from the Grove farm shop and butchery nearby and local providers. Fortified, head out for a walk in the countryside – there are plenty in this beautiful area and Marlborough can be reached on foot in just half an hour.

Wonderful Hosts Bolla and Simon made us feel right at home in their charming house: A Superb location, with fantastic atmosphere, and real authentic character. Their hospitality and welcome was amazing and genuinely memorable. The Full English Breakfast was one of the best I've ever experienced. They were absolutely full of warmth, enthusiasm, and charm. I wouldn't hesitate to return or to suggest it as a place to stay. Excellent in every way.

A Perfect Riverside Escape. I had such a lovely stay at this beautiful house by the river. The setting is absolutely stunning, with perfect views that change with the light. The surrounding walks were just as wonderful, with scenic paths that invite you to slow down and soak it all in. The house itself was charming and incredibly comfortable. And the breakfast- absolutely delicious! It was the perfect start to the day! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quiet getaway on a truly picturesque spot! Bolla and Simon are the perfect hosts! I am already looking forward to returning!

Location
The neighbourhood
The village pub, The Horseshoe (600m) is a thatched charmer with great grub. Visit Marlborough (under two miles), a gorgeous market town with excellent restaurants (including Rick Stein's) and independent shops. The Polly Tearooms has been serving hot brews and homemade cake for more than a century, while the Parade Cinema is a local landmark. Nearby Hungerford (15 miles) has many excellent antique shops.
Introducing
Simon & Bolla Denehy
Simon and Bolla Denehy are old hands at hosting, having opened their London home to guests for many years. Their warmth and hospitality are a large part of the house's charm, and they'll make you feel like an old friend as soon as you walk through the door.
Fisherman's House personifies everything we love about Sawday's properties and hosts! A fabulous house, in a truly idyllic setting and welcomed like old friends by Simon, Bolla and their cats and dog. Breakfast in the garden, with the river Kennet burbling past, deer, heron, cormorants, geese and other wildlife putting on a show. Only the kingfisher declined to put in an appearance. Just fabulous, thank you - we'll be back!
