The Experience

You’re greeted by soft music, golden lamplight, the wood-burner waiting to be lit and some local biscuits and chocolates to have with your tea, or a glass of wine from Corks & Cases in Masham. Dog beds and dog treats are also waiting. The sitting room is a grand spot for a quiet doze with comfy throws, linen cushions, a Bose sound system and books to read. Or burrow down in the little garden room with its own wood-burner, more books and views of the Dales by day, brilliant stars at night.

The kitchen is quaint and well stocked with basics for cooking, recipe books, a Nespresso machine and a larder full of kit. There’s plenty of room for two to cook up a storm together; you eat at a wooden table by a sweet window. It’s an easy walk across fields into Masham for market days on Wednesday and Saturday.

Walks and cycles from the door are endless and if you’re too pooped to cook the Black Swan is nearby with a menu of pub classics.

Reviews

Hideaway Cottage is a truly delightful place for a relaxing, care free getaway in the Yorkshire Dales. It has a very warm and welcoming feel, guests will want to to sink into the dark blue velvet sofa, light the wood-burner and listen to birds outside. Also, there is a lovely surprise in the spacious, beautiful garden room where you can have dinner or lounge on the sofa, looking at the stars.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're on the edge of the village of Fearby, with cottages on either side of you. Masham, just over a mile, has good shops, the market, pubs, Johnny Baghdad's Café for middle eastern food and Harry's does excellent fish and chips. The Swinton Estate for fine dining is 1 mile. Nearby breweries, Black Sheep and Theakstons do tours and there are some lively, interesting market towns to explore.

Local points of interest from Trudi & Mark Robinson

  • From the front door of the Hideaway, you can find beautiful walks, amazing countryside and a warm welcoming pub. With Masham a 25 minute walk across the fields, blazing fires, friendly locals and exceptional food in dog friendly inns, are guaranteed.
  • Masham is a delightful market town with enough to keep you busy for a while. From the twice weekly markets to its beautiful galleries, stylish interior design emporium and monthly craft markets, you won't go home empty handed.
  • If food and drink are your thing, Masham is for you. We boast not one, but two breweries, and a gin distillery, all have tour experiences. If fine dining is your passion, then 'Where there's Smoke', in the square an amazing chef owned restaurant is a must.
  • Masham is the entrance to North Yorkshire Dales National Park. You'll enter a landscape full of ancient castles, ruined abbeys and incredible scenery. Don your walking boots, pack a flask and enjoy the innumerable trails, river walks and hill rambles.
  • With Bedale, Hawes, Leyburn, Northallerton on your doorstep, you are spoilt for choice. If you are happy to stay local, then the Himalayan Gardens, Jervaux Abby, Castle Bolton and Fountains Abbey, not to mention Richard III's home Middleham are a close.
  • If you are happy to explore a little further, then a trip on the North Yorkshire Railway is a must. Enjoy a trip to Helmsley or Thirsk, the home of James Herriot or why not stay closer to home and enjoy a day spa at the 5 star Swinton Estate.

Introducing

Trudi & Mark Robinson

Trudi and Mark lovingly renovated the cottage in the summer of 2020, but kept its character and original features such as wonky wooden floors, stone walls, beams and fireplaces. They've created a super information book for guests with helpful details so you can make the most of your time in this beautiful part of the world. They live elsewhere but are on hand by phone if you need.
