The Experience
There’s an unrivalled sense of purpose to this place, part of the Denton Reserve – a large estate addressing biodiversity crisis, flood management and the production of sustainable food. Named after a delicious wild mushroom, the inn is decorated in shades of brown and relaxing earthy tones. Three snug areas (no TVs) have wooden settles, books, scrabble, chess and checkers.
The oft-changing menu includes beef, lamb and chicken reared on the estate and there are some pub favourites along with a few surprises and some very good pies – lovely to accompany them with a pint of Landlord or Ossett White Rat. A breakfast hamper is brought to your bedroom door – granola, fruit salad and compote, fresh pastries – so you can sleep in, and the beds are sumptuous. If you’re still peckish you’ll find a treats cupboard on the landing.
Hikes in the Yorkshire Dales are very special indeed so fill your lungs with good air.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're surrounded by much greenery but it's only a short drive (or a three-mile walk) to Ilkley, a sophisticated little town with the famous Bettys tea room – treat yourselves to a fat rascal after a bracing walk on the Moor. Otley is a similar distance in the other direction and has a market on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, with something for everyone. Harrogate is a must for a day out.
Local points of interest from The Penny Bun
- Close to the market town of Otley.
- Close to Ilkley and the Yorkshire moors.
- Walking trails from the pub around Wharfedale.
- Part of the Denton Reserve where you can explore and enjoy the estate.
- Ilkley is a spa town heritage with unspoilt rural surroundings, well kept Victorian streets, independent businesses and its monthly food market. Marvel at the river Wharfe snaking through the middle of town and visit the grade II listed lido.

Simply stunning, a complete breakaway in style from the traditional country pub, yet with all the necessary ingredients. Simplistic sophistication but also ales on tap and a chip butty too. Can't wait to be a customer!
