The Experience

Warmed by the Gulf Stream, lapped by the waters of Loch Ryan, this 1,400 acre estate is yours to share. Innumerable native and exotic trees flourish, deer cross the lawns, red squirrels, hedgehogs and hares drop by, and the self-catering cottages, down a private drive, ooze style and polish. The first lies in a two-storey wing of the rambling Georgian house, with gorgeous garden views; the second is above the old stables. Super-inviting under sloping ceilings, it has a cosy wood-burner and its own garden. Both are immaculate, with painted wrought-iron beds, new carpets, gleaming floors and a scattering of prints by Scottish artists. Kitchens have all you need, there’s a farm shop nearby and the nearest restaurant is seven miles. Owners Kate and Angus, the nicest pair, leave you welcome goodies, flowers, board games and DVDs; best of all, they are happy for young guests to share their children’s play house and trampoline. If you bring a big crowd there’s High Clachan, a handsome farmhouse for 8, just down the road. Come for gardens by the hatful, vast sands at Luce, the old harbour of Portpatrick (and its great pubs!). Or catch the ferry to Belfast.

Reviews

Lesley, Oldham

Home Farm Cottage on the Corsewall Estate is absolutely top quality in beautiful peaceful surroundings. The cottage is home from home with everything you need, very tastefully presented and extremely comfortable. Looking out onto the garden to see the wildlife and rabbits is so very relaxing. Good restaurants available a short drive away and beautiful scenery and coastline. Perfect!

K, NStewart

Short break in Home Farm Cottage with our dogs was a lovely escape in this tranquil setting with pleasant walks from the door round the estate and down to shores of Loch Ryan. This character cottage is lovely, with quality finishes throughout, very comfortable and great garden for the dogs. Highly recommend.

Jane, London

Corsewall Estate is an absolute gem of a place. Quiet, beautiful and in a part of Scotland well off the beaten track. Empty beaches and glorious woodland walks. Kate and Angus could not have been more helpful and our cottage was perfect in every way. A fabulous family holiday.

Sally, Kingston on Thames

Stables Cottage on the Corsewall Estate was a cosy, stylish and well appointed cottage on a beautiful estate, with magical gardens for adults and children to explore. All this in a corner of south-west Scotland which feels more remote than it actually is, with much to explore. We were three adults and a two year old, and had a great time. Would love to come back some day.

Becky

As a family group of 6 adults, we stayed at High Clachan for a week and had a wonderful time. The house was very comfortable and it is in an idyllic area. It was very peaceful and great to be able to walk from the house up the lane to Port Beg with virtually no-one else around. We enjoyed watching the swallows, buzzards, rabbits and occasional deer from the house. A beautiful area of Scotland to stay in with an interesting coastline. Kate was a charming host.

Local points of interest from Kate Carrick-Buchanan

  • Red squirrels are us! We have four feeders dotted about the estate and you can watch the bushy tailed creatures feeding and getting up to their tricks - it's highly entertaining viewing! Other wildlife on the estate includes roe deer, hares and otters.
  • We have a network of magnificent woodland paths and coastal walks on the Estate. There are lots of different options for shorter or longer walks and no need to drive anywhere they are on the doorstep. The wildflowers and the sea views are wonderful.
  • The Estate has three lovely beaches so grab a swimming costume/wet suit/paddle board/kayak or a bucket and spade and go!
  • There are lots of gardens to visit in the area including Glenwhan and Castle Kennedy. The jewel in the crown is Logan Botanical Gardens - which has a wonderful array of exotic plants and a tip top cafe to boot too
  • For the great outdoors, head to the Galloway Forest Park and enjoy stunning walks or mountain biking in the hills.
  • With some of the clearest night time skies in the country, you could book a star gazing evening on the Estate with our friendly Dark Skies Park Ranger.
