The Experience

A ten-minute trot from Princes Street is a Georgian square dating from 1821. The Glenogle Baths are on the corner and the boho shops are a stroll away – hard to imagine a more privileged spot. This corniced, shuttered, sash-windowed apartment, its rooms flooded with light, spreads itself across the ground floor of a delightful townhouse on Saxe Coburg Place. Enter the wide hallway, turn left in front of the stair… there on the table to welcome you are a half bottle of prosecco, Edinburgh shortbread, fresh fruit and flowers. With its palette of soft yellows and creams, and immaculate furnishings in classic-modern style, this is a perfect pad for culture lovers and families alike. You get a sunny drawing room with an illuminated glass drinks cabinet, a white rug and cream sofas, a dining area by the window, and a top-notch kitchenette. You’ll love the farmers’ market on Sundays at Jubilee Gardens, and the legendary Bailie Bar near the Water of Leith, a cosy traditional pub. Return to serene bedrooms with deep window seats facing the small shared garden, and access to that lovely, lush, leafy square.

Reviews

Jason, Washington

From the moment of our arrival, our stay at the apartment was perfect! Our flights were delayed and Laura was so helpful. Our flight land late at night and we were greeted with the warmest reception. The apartment is perfectly located in the city near all the attractions yet tucked away for a quiet retreat. It has everything you could possibly need. Restaurants and a co-op is near for any necessities. The apartment is beautifully decorated and had plenty of space for our 3 family members. Laura, Catriona, and Ania are the perfect hosts. This is definitely on our list for a return trip.

Catherine, London

We had an absolutely lovely time in this gorgeous apartment. So well appointed and cleverly planned. The shops and delis of Stockbridge are just around the corner and I'd highly recommend popping into the St Bernard's Bar for a unique cocktail experience. Laura couldn't have been more helpful in the run up to and during our stay - I would go back to Saxe Coberg Place in a heartbeat.

Christa, Sydney

We had 5 lovely days staying in Saxe Coburg and visiting Edinburgh. It is a beautiful traditional apartment in a charming part of the city, very comfortable and well appointed. The hosts had even left us snacks, drinks and fruit which was most welcome! We would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Diane, Armagh

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Saxe Coburg place in Edinburgh. The apartment is clean, fresh and homely and located in a beautiful area with upbeat shops and cafes near by.

Laurence, Harpenden

Just round the corner from all the shops, cafes, restaurants (some need advance booking as they are so popular!) and a short walk to the excellent Botanic Gardens, in a super quiet square in Stockbridge. The airy, light living room is ample space for four. Its a fair walk, with inevitable Edinburgh Hills, but we did the walk into Central Edinburgh every day for two weeks (but there's a good bus service as well). Laura and team couldn't have been more helpful and we really enjoyed our stay.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Laura Finlayson

  • Cosy up at a fireside table at the legendry old classic pub The Bailie for some of the best hearty pub fare! A stones throw from the apartment just at the end of St Stephen Street
  • Speciality shopping galore, use the wicker basket in the apartment and fill to the brim with artisan village produce such as speciality cheeses from Mellis's, deli produce at Herbies, wIne from Raeburn Fine Wines and tempting patisserie from Florentines
  • Amble by the river on this beautiful walk. Wander through the centuries passing St Bernards Well c1780 in 10 mins then on to historic Dean Village c1128 in only a few mins more. Truly enchanting whatever the time of year and take a camera too!
  • Princes' St (main city thoroughfare) on foot is 10-15 mins or hop on a bus, number 42 at the end of the street and be in the heart of the Old Town up near the castle in mins - or saunter up there at a more leisurely pace - its a lovely downhill walk home
  • Enjoy the sunset at Raeburn Hotel with its West facing balcony - get there early and book a table to dine outside or just enjoy a relaxing sundowner before dinner
  • Sunday market a must! End of street. Another must is to pack trunks and costumes, head to restored Glenogle Baths just 2 doors along and of course the awsome Botanics! 10 mins away, wonderful cafe and glasshouse and always something on
