The Experience
This lovely inn sits in a small village directly above the Union Canal. Footpaths head west into the country, after tucking into Sunday lunch you can hire bikes and follow the tow path into Edinburgh. If all that sounds too strenuous, then plonk yourself down on the terrace and watch the odd boat chug past while sipping a pint of good ale. Inside, the view is weather-proofed by big windows in the dining room. An easy style runs throughout. You’ll find wood-burners, smart colours, a whisky bar, the odd sofa. In summer, there are barbecues on Friday nights, an ice cream shed in the garden, even a monthly pub quiz for you to test your general knowledge. Rooms aren’t huge, but hit the spot. They’re stylish and comfy with smart beds and crisp linen. All but one has the view, three have walk-in power showers, one has a claw-foot bath. The airport is ten minutes away, but you’re not on the flight path, so peace reigns. Finally, don’t miss nearby Jupiter Artland in summer, a wonderland of beautiful things. Children are very welcome, as are dogs in the popular bar area.

This was a fabulous place to stay. We loved the ambience of the place. The satff were very friendly and professional. They made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble to them. The food here was divine. To visit Edinburgh was easy, we parked our car at the free car park beside the tram station close by and had a stress free trip into the city. Thank you for having us.

Introducing
Graham & Rachel Bucknall
Rachel has three pubs in Scotland. She works closely with the chefs in each one as food is her driving force. You are looked after by a friendly team of well-trained staff.
Great location and food. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very easy to get into Edinburgh by bus and tram (day return £4). Rural atmosphere. Will use as our base again when we come to Edinburgh.
