The Experience
For lovers of remote country retreats, of breathing deeply and unwinding totally, and for those with a taste for funkily furnished sustainable buildings: timber is reclaimed, stone is from the hillside you see framed by weather-proof windows.
The Broch echoes an Iron Age roundhouse and The Rock House is a single storey space built into the rugged landscape – take both and get together for hill-walking, fishing, bird-spotting and beach-combing forays straight out from the door. Go a little further for surfing, kayaking, golfing, boat trips; places to eat nearby range from the simple to high-end.
Come home to books and games to play by the log-burning stove. Bathrooms are glamorous and kitchens top-notch; shops are a 10-minute drive. The team at Borve can advise on distillery tours, Harris tweed-making demonstrations and exhibitions, dolphin and eagle-spotting trips – but to be sure, visit the North Harris Eagle Observatory.

The Broch met our high expectations, local views and scenery exceeded them. The website video gives a great run through so we knew what to expect but it is a fantastic location and the fit out exceptionally good. The sunset views from the windows and local beach walks made for a memorable stay. Will definitely be back for the full week next time!

What an excellent property! The Rock House is a private, incredibly well appointed home with amazing views in every direction. We loved everything about it from the interesting construction design and quality furnishings to the above and beyond assistance we received from Camille... We enjoyed our sheep neighbors tremendously as well as the many birds who visited throughout the day. The beach is a short walk away, and sunsets are spectacular. The property is a great place for star gazing and we were fortunate to see and photograph the northern lights one evening. Magical!

This was our first visit to Harris we had a fantastic week at the Rock House...it was a joy to sit in the comfort of the Rock House watching the waves crash on to a sandy beach not far away whilst the log burner kept as warm and cosy. .....Thanks to everyone at Borve - your service and kindness was much appreciated and helped make this a very special holiday for my wife and I. Would love to come back soon.

A wonderful stay in a most beautiful part of the world. It took no time at all to relax and feel at home. A hidden gem.

Location
The neighbourhood
The Broch overlooks Borve valley, and The Rock House towards the beach (a 5-minute walk) so you’ve bird-watching and sea-life right there. There’s hill-walking and golf too: the Isle of Harris Golf Club is a few minutes’ drive. An Traigh Café, Scarista House and Horgabost Campsite trailer are near for coffee and lunches. The miles of white sands of Luskentyre are 15 minutes away. It’s 10 to Leverburgh’s shops and to the nearest petrol station.
Local points of interest from Camille Craven
- Staying at Borve Lodge Estate will provide you with the most unique and breath taking views, right from the comfort of our 5 star luxury cottages. Over looking both Borve woodland and beach, The Rock and Broch are in the perfect location.
- The famous Luskentyre beach, voted in the top 10 beaches in the UK, and also receiving global recognition, is within a 10 minute drive of Borve Lodge Estate where one can enjoy the crystal blue waters and white sands along the miles of Luskentyre beach.
- Where better to come and explore the history of the world known Harris Tweed? View demonstrations from weaver Donald John Mackay, and purchase some lengths of Harris Tweed from the warehouse and shop in Tarbert so you can make your own Harris Tweed items.
- Watch an array of wildlife all in a day on the Isle of Harris. From sea eagles and golden eagles to dolphins and if you are really lucky, an otter. Visit the North Harris Eagle Observatory to really catch a glimpse of these amazing animals.
- Taransay Day Trips. Spend a day on one of the most magical islands of the Hebrides, and the location for the reality TV series Castaway 2000. Borve Lodge Estate will be taking visitors to Taransay to experience somewhere truly remote, pristine and wild.
- If you are not a huge fan of the outdoors, or are simply in need of some rest and relaxation, The Rock House and The Broch are the perfect place for you to completely unwind during your stay at Borve lodge estate, providing 21st century luxury for two.

Introducing
Camille Craven
Camille is your main contact and either she or the friendly housekeeper will greet you. The team are a mix of native and non-native islanders - they all live locally so have a wealth of knowledge about all things Harris. They are happy to help in any way they can, whether your questions are about tweed, tides or day trips to St Kilda.
This can and will be one of the easiest reviews I've ever written for a rental property. The Rock House is a magical place - a stunning house that captures the heart at first site. The views from the house are extraordinary, whether in the comforts of the bedroom, living room or dining room. The kitchen is sizable and well-appointed, the bathroom is a dream and crawling into the oh-so-comfortable bed each night was full pleasure. The only reason I wouldn't recommended The Rock House is I selfishly would like to keep it a secret so we can stay again and again.
