The Experience

Forming part of a quadrangle of 17th-century stone farm buildings, the cottage has been carefully renovated using sustainable principles and mainly local materials by the Duchy of Cornwall. It’s dreamy inside and out, overlooking a 190-acre estate threaded with country walks.

Inside, the mood is calm, with lime-plastered walls, soft colours and gentle lighting. Underfloor heating keeps things cosy, while artwork, ceramics, and a mix of antique and modern furniture complement the ancient beams. The kitchen is well stocked with essentials and treats – estate apple juice, local bread, eggs and butter – along with fresh flowers and seasonal greenhouse goodies. Two soothing bedrooms with woodland views share a bathroom.

Sip your morning coffee in your private garden, wander into the lavender-scented cobbled courtyard with its fountain and climbing roses, then explore the estate or head out for a hike – Pen y Fan is visible from the farm.

Reviews

It was hard to leave this beautiful place, the land seems to draw you in and cocoon you. So come and find clarity whilst walking on the wild Cambrian Way. Then return to this ancient complex, sensitively renovated by a very caring owner, to enjoy the calm, elegant spaces with loved ones. There is much to do locally as well, although many never stray too far. A rare place in a dramatic landscape.

The neighbourhood

Myddfai village just down the road has a busy community centre. The lively market town of Llandovery (4 miles) has a good selection of pubs, cafés and shops, a small castle and a statue of Welsh resistance fighter, Llewelyn ap Gruffydd. Llandeilo (10 miles) has some excellent shops and galleries. There's a local Red Kite Feeding Station and The Cambrian Way is close.
