The Experience
This charming manor house sits on its own estate. Outside are sloping lawns, formal parterres and a wildflower meadow, inside are twisty corridors, marvellous antique furniture and staircases that date from the 1600s. The house is still in the family; paintings and ceramics by them decorate several of the walls.
Find a beautifully furnished hall, a cosy sitting room with an inglenook, a magnificent dining room with an oak refectory table and a lovely kitchen with all you need. Everything shines. Trot up two steps to find a sitting room for children – sofa, toys, books, TV – and two good bedrooms. On the upper floors are the rest of the bedrooms, full of character and style, and big old-fashioned bathrooms with up-to-the-minute showers.
Find maps, wellies, coats and hats to borrow – explore acres of grounds. You can book yourselves in for a private slot in the lovely sauna with outdoor shower.

Simply the most perfect location and venue for a large get together. The property is extensive, very private and in the most beautiful grounds, with gorgeous views in every direction. The house is very versatile, effectively over 3 'sections' offering the potential to come together in the incredible dining and living areas, whilst providing separate, private living spaces. The hosts are really exceptional. The house is cleaned to a very high standard and could not be better equipped. There was not a single thing we needed that wasn't available. I would not hesitate to highly recommend.

Our big family party had the most wonderful week at Carrigfelen. Utterly beautiful setting, terrace and estate, fascinating house full of beautiful things and surrounded by all the magic of Eryri and the coast for climbing, swimming and surfing. Recommend heartily!

Another lovely stay at Careg Felen. 17 years since we first came to this amazing house and it never fails to impress. Kerry was brilliant and we will no doubt be back again as it really is now part of our family.

Location
The neighbourhood
The ancient oak woodlands are a joy to explore, and there's a trout-filled lake you may fish. There is very little light pollution and as it is a 3000-acre estate there is a lot of wildlife, including bats. It feels very remote and is completely private from the other cottages on the estate, yet it is only a 10-minute drive to Porthmadog or Criccieth with many shops and restaurants.
Local points of interest from Wern Holiday Cottages
- 2000 acre private country estate surrounded by ancient oak woodlands - perfect for dog walking or just exploring.
- You can fish in our private lake at a very reasonable cost. Our lake has been stocked solely for the use of our guests.
- Portmeirion is only a short drive away - created by Clough Williams-Ellis (the owner of the cottage is his great nephew) this quirky Italianaite village is full of surprises. Iconic architecture, scenic walks, restaurants, cafes and ice cream parlours!
- Llanbedrog is a charming little seaside village with a superb beach and the most famous line of beach huts in Wales. Visit the Oriel Plas Glyn Y Weddw Gallery - see the owner's (David) sculpture "Louise" in the garden. Lovely tea room with homemade cakes
- Black Rock Sands is a must - The beach is so vast that you can drive your car onto it. Perfect for dog walking, shell collecting, windsurfing or just having a good old run about.
- We have just been awarded the Best Holiday Accommodation Provider in Wales by Prestige!

This is a special place. It is as beautiful as it looks in the photos. You will be staying in a place that has a massive amount of art and family history on the walls and you will feel that parts of the house at least are a trip back in time. You could bump your head on an ancient beam but it’s worth it. Garden is lovely. You are out in the countryside but two really nice small towns or large villages are a couple of miles away in either direction. You don’t need to plan trips to tourist destinations, you’re in one. Everybody’s friendly.
