This charming whitewashed cottage is one of five on the Wern Estate, on the edge of Snowdonia National Park. You let yourself in using the key safe, but housekeeper Kerrie will pop in during your visit and is on hand if needed – ask about having a home-cooked meal waiting when you arrive and dine in the conservatory looking out over the gardens.
Snuggle next to the wood-burner in the sitting room with a book or play games while you indulge in the generous welcome hamper, which includes homemade cake, jam, Welsh cakes and biscuits as well as fresh ground coffee, tea and an artisan loaf. Pick your own herbs from the garden and cook up a storm in the farmhouse kitchen or use the barbecue on the patio when it’s balmy.
A pretty stream runs alongside the house, and at the back there’s a secret garden with inspiring views across a private lake to the surrounding hills of the Llyn Peninsula. Walk to the beach at Black Rock Sands in 40 minutes, explore the nearby seaside towns of Criccieth and Porthmadog and have a fascinating day out at Portmeirion, designed in the style of an Italian village (a seven-mile drive).
