The Experience
It feels remote here but you’re actually not far from good pubs, restaurants and fabulous outdoor stuff inland or on the coast. This is one of five cottages on the Wern Estate; inside is irresistibly warm and tasteful with a big fire for chilly days and good books about the area.
The small galley kitchen is spanking new and well thought out – in fact everything here is, with space in bathrooms for sponge bags, full-length mirrors on the backs of wardrobes – nothing has been done on the cheap. You’ll find all the kit you need in the kitchen.
Bring bikes – there’s a cycle path down to Criccieth (1.5 miles) and the 1930s building designed by Clough Williams Ellis now a super restaurant called Dylans that faces the sea. Explore the castles here or drive to Harlech for a bigger one. You are inside the Snowdonia National Park for white-water rafting, zip wires, fishing and mountain biking. There’s outdoor seating, a barbecue for mild evenings and you can watch the stars come out as you lie back in the hot tub or book yourselves a private slot in the super sauna.

Y Boncyn is peaceful, beautifully appointed and Kerrie is wonderful at looking after the guests. The walks around the house are great and it's ideally situated for Criccieth, Harlech and Porthmadog.

Thoroughly enjoyable and restful break at Y Boncyn. Lovely views from the house which was really comfortable to sit back and relax after a day exploring. Lots of space for our daughter to play and she loved seeing the sheep every day.

A very special, peaceful, secluded place to stay and from which to enjoy the many attractions of a stunningly beautiful part of Wales. I look forward to returning yet again.

Location
The neighbourhood
The front garden is just that – a fenced-off square of grass that blends seamlessly into the surrounding rough North Welsh countryside, dotted with many sheep. You can follow the sun around the house all day. Walk, or cycle, to Criccieth for the beach, a good restaurant and pubs. By car explore the magnificent castles of Harlech (14 miles) and Caernarfon (17). Portmeirion, the unusual village designed by Clough Williams Ellis, is closer and a bit like marmite – people either love it or hate it. The National Park surrounds you for walks big and small, challenging cycling and as much adventure as you can stand.
Local points of interest from Wern Holiday Cottages
- 2000 Acre private rural Estate surrounded by oak woodlands. The gardens are lawned and private.
- You can fish in our private lake at a very reasonable cost. Our lake has been stocked solely for the use of our guests.
- Black Rock Sands is a must - the beach is so vast that you can drive your car onto it. Perfect for dog walking, shell collecting, windsurfing or just having a good old run about.
- Portmeirion is only a short drive away. Created by Clough Williams-Ellis (the owner of the cottage is David Williams-Ellis - Clough's great nephew). Iconic architecture, scenic walks, restaurants, cafes and old fashioned ice cream parlours.
- Llanbedrog is a charming little seaside village with a superb beach and the most famous line of beach huts in North Wales. Visit the Oriel Plas Glyn Y Weddw Gallery for homemade cake and see David's (the owner of Y Boncyn) sculpture "Louise" in the garden.
- Our delightful housekeeper is happy to cook a welcome meal ready for your arrival at a very reasonable cost.

Fantastic secluded spot … right in the middle of nature. Property itself is even better than the pics. Not the place if u want to walk to bars and restaurants but a short drive to all spots on the peninsula … a really memorable stay
