The Experience

Walkers, cyclists and nature lovers will be happy: space for muddy boots, an outdoor hosepipe for the dog, homemade Welsh cakes and an honesty fridge with all your favourite tipples. Breakfast is brought to your room: Greek yogurt pots with homemade granola, fruit compote from the garden in season, home-baked bread, smoked salmon bagel or a bacon sandwich, croissants with homemade jam – lots of veggie options too.

You eat at a table in the window looking at the views or a bank of flowers opposite with the sound of the stream. Each south-facing room has its own bathroom with underfloor heating, Myddfai soaps and fluffy towels. Wind down with a glass of wine at sunset on your own little terrace or wander the paths through the stream-fed garden to a little lake and a nature reserve with bird hide.

Set off to explore through fields of sheep and an ancient chapel; tackle Pen-y-Fan, bring bikes – this is God’s own country.

If you are looking for a warm welcome, comfy rooms, stunning view and fabulous hosts, look no further. We only stayed one night but wished we had stayed longer, next time we will. Dogs are welcome. Clare and John (the hosts) were full of ideas of places to visit, they are very lovely.

Wow what a place! We stayed here whilst we were attending the Hay Festival and it was great to come back to such a comfortable and friendly place at the end of a long day. The room was beautifully clean with super comfy bed and the option to have breakfast on our own private patio which allowed us to look at the stunning view! The breakfast choices were perfect and it all appeared on a tray at our door at our chosen time. All in all a fab place to stay, will certainly be rebooking.

Fabulous! Clare and John are so hospitable and fabulous hosts. What an amazing place to stay: our room Butterfly has stunning views of the surrounding hills. Lovely spacious room, with a huge really comfy bed, luxurious bathroom and super breakfasts that set us up for the day. Plus an honesty bar and fridge for you to enjoy a nice glass of wine at the end of the day. Absolutely gorgeous: this is a first class very special place to stay. Can't wait to return.

The neighbourhood

Glasbury-on-Wye is the nearest proper village – there's a canoe centre there and you can swim in the river. Hay-on-Wye is just over four miles for books, art and Chapters restaurant. You can join Offa's Dyke here or set off on the Wye Valley Walk from the house. Bring bikes and John will 'truck' you to the top of the mountains so you can charge down them without being out of puff. You're on Sustrans Route 8.

Hay on Wye - market town famous for its book shops, out door market, galleries, quirky independent shops , restaurants and cafes and of course its annual Literary Festival is only a short drive away
Glasbury 0n Wye - our nearest restaurant Foyles and the Harp Inn are less than a mile down the road. A place also to enjoy the river . It has become known as a canoeing centre and a great place for wild swimming.
Walking Galore - the Black Mountains, The Brecon Beacons, The Wye Valley Walk and Offas Dyke Walk - don't forget your walking gear! We have a drying room should you need it.
Cwm Bach Lodge has a magical garden bordered by streams and views to die for. We have recently renovated the swimming pond. We love our guests to explore , relax and soak in this little piece of heaven - may be even take a dip!
Castles - It's Wales. Also a short scenic drive from the beautiful Llanthony Abbey.
The Welsh Coast, Cardiff, Swansea and Hereford are a day trip away. Cwm Bach Lodge is a great place to base yourself and explore this stunning part of the world.

Introducing

Clare Booth

Clare was a practice nurse and is Welsh born and bred. John, a retired chartered accountant, is from Huddersfield. They are both gardening mad and they'd always dreamed of running a B&B. Well-travelled (they lived in New Zealand for two years), thoughtful and fun, they enjoy making guests happy and nothing is too much trouble. You'll also meet Winnie the whippet, their sweet lockdown puppy.
