Between Perigeux and Limoges, in a rural part of the Dordogne, a handsomely restored gîte with a wonderful pool

2 beds

2 bedrooms

Sleeps 4

The Experience

Relax on the patio enclosed by high hedges and shaded by trees. You can bask by the pool, lunch on the terrace and have a barbecue in the evening with provisions from the good local boucherie. You stay in the gîte adjacent to the 19th-century coach-house, recently revived by William and Vanessa.

Inside feels warm, convivial and cosy – an open-plan design for plenty of space and with huge rustic beams overhead. Take a tour of Vanessa’s wonderful vintage fashion collection in the little museum; stroll down to the village and its lovely square for shops, a bistro and boulangerie.

This is the northern reach of the Dordogne, the aptly named Perigord Vert, with a verdant landscape of forests, valleys and hills. Stock up at Piégut-Pluviers market (26km), discover prehistoric cave paintings at the Grotte de Villars (19km) and visit the Château de Jumilhac and its gardens (18km), topped with turrets and towers.

All in all, an unforgettable stay in a wonderful environment!

A perfect week in a perfect gite! Quiet, large pool set in a lush garden and comfortable double beds and a fully equipped kitchen. Comfy outdoor seating for shade and sun lounger. And a great little bakery up the street in the small cosy town of Maillet. Thanks a million Vanessa and William for the tips and warm welcome.

This page is probably too small to hold all the words to describe our lovely stay in the Dordogne. First of all; your warm welcome, incl all the groceries, information, tips for places to go to. What a truly fabulous week we had with lots of 'Beaux Souvenirs' to take away with us. Vanessa & William are superb hosts, such attention to detail to ensure everything was exactly right for us. We really appreciated the groceries & wine on arrival, and lots of great recommendations for places to visit. The fashion museum is a gem. Lazing by the beautiful pool was the perfect antidote to sightseeing. This is a very special gite, that we thoroughly recommend.

Vanessa & Will provide a first class environment, and have thought of every little detail (including points of interest in the area) to ensure a perfect visit. Their garden furniture was particularly luxurious and we were serenaded by a beautiful blackbird singing his heart out every day. A perfect antidote to the hot weather was the private pool - a perfect restorative. Vanessa & Will are perfect hosts.

Patricia, Wadebridge

In the main house live a delightful pair: William, a Scot, and English Vanessa. William, who was in the Royal Navy in the 1980s, is a keen amateur historian and could discuss Napoleon for hours; Vanessa loves fashion and worked in marketing. They are really knowledgeable about the area so ask them for recommendations - they'll even make bookings for you.
