The Experience
This château B&B is run with warmth and energy: Stéphane cooks brilliantly and loves wine, Florence is enormous fun. There’s a laid-back feeling here. Big, sunny bedrooms overlook beautiful grounds tumbling with roses and birds flit between the trees. Float in an infinity pool, sunbathe on treetop decks, dip in the hot tub.
Breakfast on croissants, French ham and cheese or eggs if you want, borrow tackle to fish in the lake or spin off on borrowed bikes to visit châteaux and quiet lanes (don’t forget to reserve dinner later). It’s paradise for families with space all around for children to run free, plus badminton, football and table tennis.
It’s quiet in the Perigord, château-studded and rich in history and cuisine. There’s much to see within driving distance: Vézère’s cave drawings, Issigeac’s Sunday market, canoeing on the river.

We enjoyed a blissful 2-night stay at the chateau. It is beautiful, tucked away in the middle of nowhere with the only noise the sound of birdsong, and Stephane and Florence were perfect hosts. It was very restful, the perfect retreat with stunning grounds, a lovely swimming pool and hot-tub in a wonderful setting. The nearby villages are all worth a visit, and the L'Atelier restaurant in Issigeac amazing. Most of all, we enjoyed our interaction with the hosts - and chatting with them on arrival and over breakfast certainly helped improve our Franglais! Merci beaucoup, Stephane and Florence

Fabulous find. Stéphane and Florence were great hosts. We’re there when you needed them but was like you had the place to yourself. Rooms fabulous, pool and hot tub amazing and grounds beautiful. A true gem just outside of the beautiful medieval village Issigeac. Lovely cycle routes and driving to chateaus only 10 to 15 minutes away. Meal cooked by Stephan on the last night was lovely. He was so hospitable. Definitely recommend it. Very reasonably priced.

A lovely peaceful retreat in the Dordogne countryside, but with lots to do on site, if you wish. The pool and hot tub were most welcome to aid the relaxation. Our hosts, Florence and Stephane were very welcoming and the room and breakfasts delightful. Hoping to return in the future, but next time with rod and line, as there is a most inviting fishing lake within the grounds

Location
The neighbourhood
Within a short drive from the manoir you’ll find a clutch of honeyed stone bastide towns; Issigeac (3.5km) is closest and beloved for its fine market where you’ll find duck and goose, foie gras, fruits of the land and black truffles. Villarèal and Montpazier are also worth a look. Châteaux Biron (27km) and Bridoire (18km) are ideal for families, with games and much to explore, and there are trips on the Dordogne river (20 minutes’ drive) via canoe or traditional flat-bottomed gabarre. Wine lovers should visit Bergerac (20km) and Montbazillac (16km).
Local points of interest from Florence & Stéphane Desmette
- The neighbouring medieval ISSIGEAC village with its popular SUNDAY MARKET is the focus of a unique combination of landscape variety. Woodland splashed hills and rolling Bergerac VINEYARDS are dotted with exquisite VILLAGES and stunning CASTLES.
- BERGERAC, MONPAZIER, BIRON, MONBAZILLAC, BRIDOIRE, VILLEREAL, BEAUMONT, SAINT-AVIT-SENIEUR, CADOUIN : already many sites for a few days. For a longer stay, we recommand SARLAT, BEYNAC, LIMEUIL, MARQUEYSSAC, PERIGUEUX among many more lovely places
- GOLF course (30' drive away) TENNIS (5'), HORSE RIDING (5') CANOEING or sailing on a 'gabarre'-flat bottom boat on the Dordogne river (30'), BOWLING in Bergerac, TREE TOP ADVENTURE park (40')
- Swimming-pool and Hob Tub, Badminton, Croquet, PingPong, Pétanque (French bowls), Fishing in the Lake (fishing tackle provided), Walking on the surrounding country paths (17loops arround Issigeac), cycling through picturesque vistas (bikes to borrow).
- GARDEN and NATURE : the romantic grounds, fringed by roses and flower beds, expand through old boxwood, oak, ash, field mapple. trees and some rare species. Both dry and wet grassland display contrasted sceneries, favoring wild life. A birds' paradise...

Introducing
Florence & Stéphane Desmette
Charming Stéphane and Florence greet all guests with infectious enthusiasm. Stéphane co-built the treehouses, while the garden is Florence’s domain. They can recommend places to see nearby – ask over dinner, Stéphane’s an accomplished chef.
A truly quiet and peaceful retreat in a lovely natural setting complete with a well kept infinity pool. Florence and Stephane have created a sanctuary with well appointed rooms and attention to detail. Try and get in on a dinner with chef Stephane; it is superb.
