The Experience
This 18th-century paper mill has been given a minimalist makeover inside, with vast open-plan rooms and an ultra-modern vibe. It’s nestled in the shallow Couze valley and surrounded by woodlands and rivers.
Rebecca and Greg live in the mill house behind you and leave a generous welcome basket of wine, beer, bread, cheese and fruit plus the basics – they’ll happily advise on what to see and do in the area. Find plenty of space to cook together and a summer kitchen and barbecue, plus an elegant swimming pool to laze beside.
Historic Beaumont is a five-minute drive (or you can walk through the woods and fields in 45 minutes) and has restaurants, food shops and the best quincaillerie for miles, selling everything from crayfish pots to bells. Walk along or canoe on the Dordogne in Le Buisson or visit the medieval village of Issigeac for an amazing Sunday market.

Location
The neighbourhood
The feel is completely remote and quiet, so children can pretty much go free range as long as they are safe near water. There are dams to build and dens to create and woodlands to charge about in. Rebecca can arrange bike hire but you can walk to Beaumont (the nearest town) in 45 minutes.
Local points of interest from Rebecca Randall
- Visit the historic centre of Saint Avit Senieur with its famous abbey, dedicated to Saint Avit who died in 570. Attached is the 11th century church and presbytere, home to an exhibition of art and a small café. Explore the prehistoric caves nearby too.
- Within easy reach of fantastic local restaurants and bars - Table de Leo and Chez Cathy & Denis are in central Saint Avit and Le Closerie de la Beyne, a 15 minute drive. All super.
- Close to bustling villages – Beaumont du Perigord has bakeries, restaurants and shops. The Monday night market in Beaumont are not to be missed – from 6.30 try local produce on long tables al frescoe with music by a local band or DJ.
- Some of the best produce in France is grown here – pick up amazing cheeses, foie gros, canard, bread, cakes and truffles in the markets nearby. If you fancy having a night off cooking, just ask about organising a private chef.
- Visit the beautiful panoramic gardens of Limeuil, a 20 minute drive away. 2 hectares of park with amazing views over the river and beyond. Go horse riding, play golf, cycle, walk or canoe along the beautiful Dordogne river.
- Enjoy the unique and tranquil setting of Fontalbe, just south of the Dordogne river. We are completely surrounded by untouched countryside and meandering streams. Here you will be in your own private bubble.

Introducing
Rebecca Randall
Rebecca is a barrister and Greg worked in the City in London. When they bought Fontalbe in 2016 it was in a dilapidated state, with no internal walls, bathrooms or kitchens, but together with their designer and a fabulous team of builders they slowly brought her back to life. They sold their house in London and moved here permanently in 2018, quickly settling into the local community.
Enjoy the utter contrast between the ultra-sleek, minimalist decor of the huge internal spaces, upstairs and down, and the natural world outside, with the mill leat tumbling down into the stream, birds warbling in the woodland and deer roaming through the relic orchard. Utter tranquillity within a brisk walk of a delightful historic small town.
