The Experience
The house was built for lazy days drifting outdoors and in, al fresco meals under the gazebo, sunbathing by the sparkling pool, watching butterflies flit through the lilac and listening to birdsong. On dull days you can escape indoors and you still won’t feel crowded: the huge monk’s table seats 12, the kitchen is big enough for all to cook together, and there’s plenty of comfy seating, a wood fire for cheer and a covered terrace for escapees.
Bedrooms (five in the main house and two in the barn) all have super views – either to open countryside, or over the courtyard with its hanging wisteria. Beds are well dressed, furniture is French antique, the peace is deep. There are regular food markets nearby for stocking up on local produce.
You’re surrounded by lovely Dordogne countryside for walks and cycles, there are countless castles and prehistoric excavations to visit.

Location
The neighbourhood
Head to the river Dordogne to hire a canoe, join a boat trip, or take a wild swim. The pretty bastide town of Monpazier is just 10 minutes' drive. History lovers will enjoy Cadouin (6km) for the UNESCO-listed gothic abbey, Beaumont-du-Perigord (14km) has an excellent boulangerie and a gastronomic night market on Mondays, and Belvès (14km) is perched on a hill with fabulous views.
Local points of interest from Lucy Ivey
- We are 10 mins' drive from three of the prettiest Bastide Towns in the Dordogne - Monpazier, Beaumont-du-Périgord and Cadouin.
- There are local markets on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday all within a 30 mins' drive, many within a 10-min drive.
- Canoeing on the Dordogne for a half or whole day is highly recommended and just 45 mins' drive from the house. Canoe down the river admiring the castles and châteaux carved into rock faces.
- There are weekly summer antique markets in the local towns and brocantes open all year round in nearby Bergerac.
- We are just 50 mins from Bergerac Airport.
- The house is set in 11 acres of garden with plenty of areas to sit and enjoy the sun (or shade).
