Caro and Seán’s passion for creating wine eventually led them to this ancient estate, and they will immerse you in the intricate and fascinating world of growing, creating and understanding wine.
The setting is utterly lovely, with views pouring over steeply sloping ranks of vines, rolling hills and woodland. The Lodge, previously a ‘chai’ (winery), has been eco-consciously converted, and inside are honeyed oak and poplar, stone walls and big windows for those marvellous views. The Cottage shares the views and is equally comfortable, with an airy living room and private terrace.
It’s a short walk to Saussignac to buy your daily bread and for two good restaurants. In fact, you could spend days here without using the car – a cycle ride along the Grande Randonnée, a stroll in the woods and vineyards in search of wild birds or wild mushrooms, a lazy afternoon’s reading beneath a shady fig or swimming in the saltwater pool.
